I have got a 1997 1.8 a4 auto. when i try to drive it goes fine but my speedo and odometer dont work. odo is digital and lights up but doesnt pick up the k's

What make and model? It is possible that the unplugged sensor is for the speedo / odo, since the pulses for the speedo and hence the odo is picked up from the final drive on the transmission.
Note, it is only a possibility, we need more information.
Does your speedometer work? They run off of the same signal. If your speedo works, but not work odo, then there is a mechanical problem inside the instrument cluster. I have seen the gears strip inside the odometer.
If the speedo work and the odometer doenst you'll have to get a new instrument cluster. If speedo and odo both dont work, its likely the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission.
I think the speedo head is probably good. You need to check the speedo cable and the gear at the end of the cable housing. If the gear is cupped in the center it is worn out. Replace the gear by the color code at your local Ford dealer. The other scenario would be that the gear on the output shaft is worn also. This would require the tailshaft be removed from the tranny and the nylon gear replaced on the output shaft. Good luck.
