Car makes a jolt and engine light comes on. Goes away afer a while
I just got rid of the same problem, it was driving me crazy. It turned out to be the transmission input speed sensor. I first replaced the output speed sensor (yes, there is two) and problem continued. Then changed the input speed sensor and finally solve the problem. I advice to star replacing the input speed sensor first.
This is a "dealer only" item and is $ 89.00.
Is pretty simple to replace. Input speed sensor is right bellow air filter on top of transmission, if you're standing in front of the car you'll see two sensors , they are black an you can see the wires coming from the main bundle attached to them. The sensor closer to you is the output, the one farther is the input speed sensor.
Hope this helps. If you are a DIY person I can help with more details
I believe I am having a similar problem. My light comes on and I notice that when I move it to the bump shifter it will not shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear. I took mine to Advanced Auto and they have a diagnostic tool that they will plug in to your car and tell you what is wrong. They tested it for free. Mine said it was the vehicle speed sensor. I have not had a chance to replace it to see if that is the problem or not. I understand that AutoZone has the same service.
