Since I installed a new exhaust I have an intermittent shaking when I am stationary. Are there any known problems with Mercedes exhaust? My car is a 2001 Mercedes CLK cabriolet.
Hi, the problem you are having sounds like the exhaust hasnt been ligned up properly when it has been fitted.
Or it could even be that the rubbers the exhaust rests on could be worn and need replacing.
If you hold the end of your exhaust at the back of the car give it a shake and see how tight it is, their should only be slight left to right movement if their is alot of movement then get the rubbers looked at. If their is only slight movement then the chances are the exhaust has not been lined up properly when it was fitted.
If your car had no problem before then the chances are it is the exhaust so i would check its ligned up and also check all the exhaust mounts are in place and that the rubber clamps holding the exhaust to the car are not worn as to much wear can cause the exhaust to vibrate.
One other thing to look at is the heat shield just above the exhaust if this has been bent then this could be touching your exhaust slightly causing the vibration this can be bent back so it is not touching the exhaust.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Does the entire car shake now or just the exhaust? If just the exhaust I'd say an exhaust bracket or two are not in place properly. Also the engine does torque (move) slightly when running or under load If an improper component was used the exhaust system may be carrying some of the movement in which your feeling. Either way this should not be acceptable, I'd bring it back and get a once over again. Just a heads up; if it went to a budget joint their knowledge of this system and its componenets may be short. I hope this may have helped, Tom
