Mercedes CLK Exhaust problem

Since I installed a new exhaust I have an intermittent shaking when I am stationary. Are there any known problems with Mercedes exhaust? My car is a 2001 Mercedes CLK cabriolet.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Does the entire car shake now or just the exhaust? If just the exhaust I'd say an exhaust bracket or two are not in place properly. Also the engine does torque (move) slightly when running or under load If an improper component was used the exhaust system may be carrying some of the movement in which your feeling. Either way this should not be acceptable, I'd bring it back and get a once over again. Just a heads up; if it went to a budget joint their knowledge of this system and its componenets may be short. I hope this may have helped, Tom

Hi, the problem you are having sounds like the exhaust hasnt been ligned up properly when it has been fitted.
Or it could even be that the rubbers the exhaust rests on could be worn and need replacing.

If you hold the end of your exhaust at the back of the car give it a shake and see how tight it is, their should only be slight left to right movement if their is alot of movement then get the rubbers looked at. If their is only slight movement then the chances are the exhaust has not been lined up properly when it was fitted.

If your car had no problem before then the chances are it is the exhaust so i would check its ligned up and also check all the exhaust mounts are in place and that the rubber clamps holding the exhaust to the car are not worn as to much wear can cause the exhaust to vibrate.

One other thing to look at is the heat shield just above the exhaust if this has been bent then this could be touching your exhaust slightly causing the vibration this can be bent back so it is not touching the exhaust.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Clk 320 thick white smoke from exhaust when driving

thick white smoke is probely a broken piston ring .usley caused from running out your engine. or taking an old engine with wear groves at the top of the cylinder then running it out causing the rings to hit the wear grove at top of engine breaking 1 or more rings.

Park it and forget where you left it. Or if you have any mechanical skills or inclinations, you could do some basic tests, but avoid the dangerous driving test - do this with the engine running if it needs to be running, but stationary.
It sounds like it could be the catalytic converter is getting clogged. It blocks the exhaust from going out the tail pipe. When the car is completely cool, if you thump it pretty hard, or grasp and shake it, and hear any rattling, then it is damaged and probably blocking your exhaust. If it sounds good, you could next open the exhaust somewhere ahead of the cat converter, like pulling out an oxygen sensor temporarily, or disconnecting the exhaust somewhere. Then run the engine and see if it noticeably improves. That's a bad cat.

Last, which probably should have been first, is check for trouble codes. Most important don't let repairs bankrupt you.

My 2007 kia sorento engine light came on with sluggish and steering wheel shaking then suddenly it speeds up.i change cam shaft sensor, ignition coil, plugs and carb spray.car now jerks when stationary

You need to find out what the code is that is causing the check engine light. Have you verified that the spark plug wires are in the correct order?

My car seems to shake could it be the exhaust this is up under the car I can hear it a light rumble

It there is a broken muffler hanger bracket and wind flow is moving things around under there when driving - it could casue a vibration.
Most time a shake is from a bent wheel rim or tire internally damaged.

Heater/blower fan not working at all after intermittently working

Heater motor is prone to water damage when the small drain scuttle drain gets blocked (usually by leaves).
If the passenger footwell carpet is damp, that's probably the problem.
Worth checking regularly anyway, and/or remove the small cover over the drain which is part of the problem.
Remove the heater assembly (located over passenger footwell) and replace is the easy answer.
It is possible, depending on ability, to strip and repair.
New from Europarts around £130, used around £60.
Have fun!

03 clk 200 .battery is run down over night, but not every night. new front sam , new rear sam. new battery. put amp meater on no drain.

there must be somekind of amp draw or else you shouldnt be having any problems, this may sound wierd, and also may be a bit of work, try disconnecting the alternator for a night and see if your problem goes away, ive run across this a couple of times, also, seat control modules are known to cause draw problems in c and clk classes
