We also have a 2008 Kia Sorento. We bought it in December 2007 and it has 12K miles on it. We've been having the same problem for about 2 months. In our case the check engine light comes on along with the esc off light however in our case the car then immediately loses power! We've had it to the dealer 4 times as it continues to occur even after they've claimed to fix it. The loss of power poses a serious safety hazard.

check if it is a electronic problem or a fuel problem. Put on a battery booster before you keep trying to start the engine.

maybe it is your car computer needs reprograming. It is difficult to diagnose without seeing the car and running some test

It details the need to replace the crank pulley bolt with a new one supplied by KIA. This bolt, if reused, can break causing a catastrophic engine failure. Do not buy any other bolt., it's not worth trying to save a few pennies.I have a 2005 Sorento and had my local KIA dealer do this job and other work as long as the front cover is off, replace the water pump, the timing belt idlers and tensioner assembly. It's cheaper to d all that at one time than to go back and have to redo the cover removal. Hope this helps.

your owners manuel should of had a manuel for the radio. this info should give you what you need . i dont have any thing on radios . all that i know is to do a reset take the ground off the battery and put it back on , probley were your at know ? you could see if you call the dealership or if they have a help # for there radios i have noticed that your post is 8 days old . since no radio help is out there i thought i would try to get you some other options for your problem

You need to find out what the code is that is causing the check engine light. Have you verified that the spark plug wires are in the correct order?

no if the filter or fuel system was faulty , it would not restart immediately I would be checking items like the crank position /cam position sensors immobilizer system ignition switch ( dangly things hanging off the key switching the ignition off)_ try running the fault codes to see if anything else like the dti sensor module has loose connections or is faulty

if this is a diesel kia then smoking is not a very bad sign. diesels tend to smoke when the diesel injectors are clogged up. this can happen with very poor dirty diesel fuel. take the kia in to a good mechanic. not the agents or kia cause they are going to rip you off. or there is a solvent you can buy at a carparts&accessories that can unclog. just ask for assistance. a diesel starts smoking when the diesel injectors are clogging up. good luck.

The only time i have encountered this problem it turned out to be a cracked fan wheel in the blower. fooled me until the fanwheel disengrated and locked up the blower motor.. could be trash in the blower too like leaves, plastic bag etc.

DOES IT SMELLS GAS AS YOU TRY TO START IT?NO..YOU HAVE TO CHECK FOR GAS FROM THE TANK TO THE ENGINE.
