There are actually special tools the cam has no timing marks the tool only goes on one way and locks the cams in place and it is actually a long process but there is no way to do it without the cam lock

2001 Audi A6 Quattro, 2.8l 30 valve. How do I set the cams and crank timing without damaging the valves when the timing belt was removed with the engine not on TDC

Remove the spark plugs and measuring the distance through the plug holes with a rod, very gently turn the crankshaft (either way) until you are certain all the pistons are well below tdc and then gently bring the camshaft(s) to the timing position, followed by bringing the crank to the timing position.

What is the timing procedure for a 2003 Audi A6 Quattro 3.0

there is a special tool as there are no timing marks, in front of the cam gears are plates with two holes in each (for location of tool) there is also a tool that protrudes into the crankshaft position sensor hole.. if you dont have access to the specialty tools , than i would engrave marks on the gears and covers to align to original positions.

Misfire

Exhaust timing is camshaft not ignition. And for all 6 to be out would mean that the cam would seem to have slipped a notch.

Got audi a4 1996 diesel need to change cambelt but

A diesel uses a different procedure. You'll need a tool to hold the camshaft pulley parallel to the top of the cylinder head. The timing mark to set TDC for piston #1 is located on top of bell housing. The pointer must be aligned on the diamond cut on the flywheel. A VW/Audi setting bar tool #2065A is needed to lock the camshaft in position. Lock the injection pumpin position using the special lock pin (VW/Audi special tool no. 2064). Caution: If the drive belt is broken or has jumped time, do not attempt to lock the sprocket at this time!!! You will also need VW/Audi special tool no. VW210 to measure belt tension between camshaft sproket and injection pump sprocket. So good luck.

1997AudiA6Quatro2.8L-aligning cam and crankshaft for timing belt

You must find the cam lock bar and crank lock pin to do this job properly, otherwise you can bend some valves and that becomes expensive..the front crank damper has a mark to line up with a mark on the timing cover for #1 TDC, but the cam lock bar is what aligns the cams into position. The crank lock pin is helpful but not 100% necessary...
