Crankshaft position sensor , possibly !
Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is a three wire sensor based on the magneto resistive principle. A magneto resistive sensor uses two magnetic pickups between a permanent magnet. As an element such as a reluctor wheel passes the magnets the resulting change in the magnetic field is used by the sensor electronics to produce a digital output pulse. The PCM supplies a 12-volt, low reference, and signal circuit to the CKP sensor. The sensor returns a digital ON/OFF pulse 24 times per crankshaft revolution.
There are a lot of videos on youtube on testing crankshaft position sensors an Cam sensors !

Ram 3500 will not start batt ok turns over ok

Only two things can cause this (1) not getting gas and or (2) not getting spark.
Have someone crank while you hold spark plug wire just of off spark plug, if you see spark from wire too motor block then put a little gas into carb and see if it fires if it fires then look for a gas line or gas tank problem.

What can cause a 1995 corcica to go dead and smell of gas

Check for leaking fuel lines or a puddle of gas under the car. If the exhaust smells like gas then the gas isn't burning completely and may be a number of things like spark plugs, plug wires, clogged air intake, fuel injector that stuck open...

2002 kia sedona will not start, new starter , sounds like not getting gas or maybe flooding any ideas

If you smell gas it is getting gas, if not check the fuel filter. Next thing to check is to see if there is a spark. Remove the spark plug from the engine. Have someone crank the engine with the spark plug grounded, see if there is a spark. Also check for the smell of gas in the spark plug hole.

I have a 2000 grand voyager and the motor turns over but will not start. What could be wrong with it?

its either not getting gas or its not getting spark to the spark plugs.. check to see if its a gas problem by spraying wd40 directly into the air intake as you try to start it up...if the motor tries to start up then youre having a problem getting gas. This could be a fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, injection pump, or even a computer problem. To check if it is getting spark, pull out one spark plug, leave the wire on and touch a screwdriver to the side of the spark plug and the same time to the engine to ground it.. while grounding it on the engine, have someone bump the key to start it...if you see spark in the gap of the plug then you are getting spark and there is no problem there... if not, it could be possibly be a distributer or electronic ignition problem

The engine tries to turn over, but will not. The battery is fine, and the alternator is in good shape. Could not smell gas on the spark plugs, nor was there any traces of it.

Take all the spark plugs out, then try cranking it to see if you excess gas in the cylinders. You may want disconnect the coil pack so you you don't have a fire, in case you get gas spraying out of the spark plug holes. If you get gas out of the plug holes, then look at fuel pressure regulator. If you pull the vacuum line off and there is gas there the regulator is shot.

Car wont start, sounds like out of gas but tank is full

A car not starting can be caused by many, many things.........but...................a bad thermostat or a good thermostat will not cause or keep a car from starting in any way. you need to know if it is getting gas to the cylinders........and to check for spark at the cylinders.......pull a spark plug wire at the spark plug, pull the spark plug and see if it looks wet or smells like strong gas odor....then plug wire onto spark plug, (without re-installing spark plug), and hold spark plug onto a grounded metal object on engine (using a rubber insulated object, so you don't get shocked), then have someone turn engine over and look to see if spark plug sparks........if yes, re-install spark plug, etc.......your ignintion is sparking, but if you are getting fuel, it may be a jumped timing chain? You may need mechanical help........don't trust the person that told you about a thermostat........

Engine is not running

Looks like u better find a ride to work. U need spark and gas for the car to run. When u turn the key, does the engine turn over? If it does, u should check to see if there is spark at the plugs. Remove a spark plug wire, remove the spark plug (if u have an extra plug, just plug it into the removed wire) place on nearby metal surface, turn key, watch for spark at tip of plug. If u see spark, check to see if gas is getting to spark plugs. After several attempts to start, you should see gas (wet) on plugs. Let me know what u find
