The starter motor is located on either the lower right hand (passenger) or left hand (driver) side of the engine, bolted to the transmission housing with two mounting bolts.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

1. Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels.
2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack, using the proper frame positions.
3. Support the vehicle on the frame or transmission crossmember, with jackstands. Before working under the vehicle, make sure the vehicle is stable on the jackstands. If it is not, reposition the jackstands so that it is.
4. Label and disconnect all wiring connectors at the starter.
5. Slowly loosen the two starter mounting bolts until they are loose enough to take out by hand. Since the starter motor is uncommonly heavy for its size, it is important to support it well with one hand, while removing the two mounting bolts with the other hand. If the starter is not adequately supported, it could fall causing injury. Remove the starter from the vehicle.

1. Clean the surfaces of the starter motor flange and the flywheel housing where the starter attaches.

1. Reinstall the starter and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).
2. Connect the wiring to the starter, making sure the terminals and connectors are clean and tight.
3. Lower the truck to the ground
4. Connect the negative battery cable

I have one of these and I converted it to Diesel. I installed a Mitsubishi 4D56 2.5L Turbo inside the hood and runs much faster, more economic and more power than its old 2.0L Gasoline engine.

Per my Chilton's manual tehe bolts should be (cold engine) 65 to 72 FT. Pnds., the cam shaft bearing bolts should be 8x25 = 15 - 19 Ft pnds and the 8x65 should be 14 - 15 Ft Pnds.

The sequence is as follows for the (10 ) head bolts:

7 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 10

9 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 8
