How to fix poor idling?

If it idles high, with it in park, block off mouth of throttle body with something, it should kill the engine. If very little or no effect on idle, you have false air getting in there from somewhere.
Make sure throttle valve is closing, where applicable, take throttle cable loose, see if idle returns to normal. Check and clean idle air system. Any applicable trouble codes?

The idle air control valve is designed to adjust for the load on the engine to maintain the idle quality. When it's cold out, it's more important that the engine temperature sensor is working correctly so that it can trim the fuel richer to compensate for the cold running conditions. Also, a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor could give you problems with your idle. A shop could easily diagnose the poor idle quality for a reasonable fee if you don't feel like throwing parts at it again. Have you experienced unusually poor fuel economy or better than normal fuel economy this winter?

You need to have the choke adjusted so it runs on a fast idle so the engine can warm up or you may need the carb to be rebuild and adjusted properly.

Replacing your idle air control motor will more than likely fix your idle problem. If not, you may have a vacuum leak. As for poor fuel mileage, there are many things that affect that: tire pressure, driving habits, worn ignition parts, use of A/C, poor vehicle alignment, etc.

Do the following:
1. Clean the throttle body from inside.
2. Adjust the spark plugs gap to 1.00 mm.
3. Check fuel pump pressure. (44 Psi - 49 psi)
4. Remove the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes.
5. Connect the battery terminal.
6. Check the engine oil level and coolant level.
NOTE: Before starting the engine shut off all lights and loads for example room light, blower, radio, parking light etc.
7. Start the engine and hold the throttle at 3000 rpm till radiator fan comes on.
8. After the fan comes on release the throttle pedal and let it idle for 10 minutes.

has fuel filter been changed- try this first if not , then i would look at the catalytic converter- if no exhaust out can cause poor idle,misfiring and burnt up ignition parts

Is the check engine light on when running,does it light up with the key just turned on and vechile not running

I had the same poor idleing car was stoping at every junction,so yesterday i had the throttle body off and i have cleaned it inside by the flap including the flap the muc on there was unbelieveable now the car drives smooth no stalling issue no poor idleing!
Make sure u DONT take the sensors off either side otherwise u get in more problems.
