The answer is NO... you do not pry it 'OPEN." I'm assuming you've already removed the cotter key and the 1 1/4" nut from the axel hub? The DOJ (Dual Offset Joint) that is inserted into the differential side of the trans has a retaining ring which "COMPRESSES" when you pry the DOJ out using a large pry bar or extra large screwdriver. The same 'COMPRESSION' happens to the ring when you install the new axel.... once fully inserted, the ring 'EXPANDS' inside the differential splines creating enough tension to keep the DOJ in place.

01' Mitsubishi Eclipse cv axle removal passenger side

The passenger side has a inner and outer shaft and you would remove the axle nut and shaft from spindle then the center bracket and bearing (two bolts against engine block), sliding out the axle assembling at that point, or jerking it out, careful not to pull on the cv axle end but rather the jack, or inner, shaft. After removal, separate the middle by hanging upside down and taking a hammer to it, striking the inner shaft while turning around. Dont hit the dust shield or seals. Install in reverse order. Quick tip: you may get around removing ball joint by only removing both strut bolts, and possibly tie rod end bolt.

Need to replace the cv joint boot on a 2000 buick century (outside)

First i think you should replace the cv axle instead of trying to just replace the boot, if the grease leaked out and dirt got into the joint then the joint is bad in soon you will hear noise or joint will let go. the time it take to replace the boot and the cost of the bbot i would replace the axle, you can buy a rebuilt axle for 45.00 with the exchange of the old one. heres directions to replace the boot. remove the wheel then remove the brake caliper and bracket, tie this of to side. take brake rotor off it should slide off, you may need to tap to break it free.next is to remove the center axle nut, after that you will remove the lower balljoint nut and split lower control arm from spindle, you may need a pry bar to sperate the control arm from the spindle, pull spindle out and slide axle out of the spindle.to replace the boot cut the inner and outter boot clamps, slide boot back and look inside for a clip., some use clip inside and some outside, look at shaft going into joint, see if theres a clip to open to slide cv joint out. if theres no clip then its an internal lock clip and what you need to do is hood the shaft and bang joint off shaft, you will need some help, hold the saft or use a pry bar and slide it into the rear of the inside joint between the back of the joint and the trany and give it a tug the joint will pop out of the trany this is a lot easier to work on off the car, put it in a vise, loock the shaft in vise to keep it from moving then hold outter joint straight and hit joint with hammer a few times and it will slide off, to install tap back on to lock it back on the shaft. with joint off remove old boot and clean shaft, insall new boot with clamp first then install outter clamp, install joint and grease, put grease into joint and the rest into the boot, make sure to clean the joint before installing it, after the install place the boot on the joint and clamp both clamps, install the axle, hope this helps, good luck.

How to remove cv joint... can't get it off...

remove the large nut for the axle. remove the 2 bolts holding the strut to the knuckle. . you can also remove the tie rod end from the knuckle but iirc it can be done without doing that step. Then take a hammer and punch and drive the axle out of the hub. be careful not to hit the shaft with the hammer directly. this can damage the threads. The inner joint you pry out and then you can pull the axle out.

Open the bell. Take off the rear gear cover. U will loose all the fluid if any still in it so only remove some of the bolts loosen leave like 3 in around the bottom loosen them out a oil pan under the cover pry the cover off the diff leaving the 3 bolts to keep the cover from just popping off it will also help slow the rush of fluid. Once the fluid is drained remove the bolts and cover. On the inside u will se side gears. Have a helper push the axle shaft inward then u will see there is a C clip holding the axle carfully pry off the clip. Only do one side at a time. ... Then slide the shaft out where ur helper is. .. remove and replace the leaking seal. Then clean the axle. And u have to be easy sliding it in. Some times when the axle shaft is slide in u hit the end of the tube push the axle down toward the ground with variety of pressure as u push in this is tricky. But it will pop in. Then replace the clip and gentle have a helper try and pull back on the shaft. This sets the clip from falling out. Clean the bell area and scrap the old gasket off both sides if u have no replacement gasket get high heat black rtv silcone apply it to the cover or diff face and reverse the steps to install fill it with fluid and road test all this can be seen on youtube under inner axle seal repair. Good luck.

I am having diffacultiy removing the housing of

I think you have to remove the passenger side drive axle first then usually with a thin long screw driver or special 'U' shaped tool you go thru the differential housing and sharply tap out the driver's side axle. Go to your local library they should have a manual on that car.good luck.

Cv joint removal

Get the replacement cv axle and remove inner boot and clip and bearings. Do the same on the old axle. Replace bearing clip, cv shaft and reassemble. Do not try to remove the part from inside the front axle unless you want to spend about six hours of time and money.

Front cv axle 1995 dodge intrepid

Naturally you need to remove the tire then the brake caliper. After the brake caliper is removed then you need to remove the 34mm axle nut that is inside the hub. After that is removed then you can remove the hub. Becareful not to damage the hub seal on the back or you will have to buy a new hub (100 or more). Then you need to remove the strut knuckle assembly. Once the knuckle assembly is removed then you can pull the CV axle. Take care the inner CV housing is held in place by an inner snap ring. You will probably have to pry off the inner housing. Once the axle is off then install the new axle (if you buy complete axle). Make sure if you are doing both that you take care which side you are installing. I made that mistake and double the work. Slide the new axle on the spline and make sure it is seated completely. Then put back together the reverse of removal.
