Replace the bonnet latch

you need to first check if the fault is the bonnet release cable or the latch if you cant get the bonnet open try to apply pressure to the release cable and have an assistant apply light pressure to the underside of the bonnet front lip once you get the bonnet open spray heaps of penetrating lubricant into the latch and try to operate it (without closing the bonnet )a few times that will usually free them up always lube the latch when servicing if it cannot be freed up you should be able to see the 10 mm headed bolts that retain the latch inn place

Replace the bonnet latch

how to?
open hood(bonnet) and remove the latch (screws)

the adjust it . per FSM book.
if you cant open it , that is a problem. so, if the latch is cable driven
most cars we can pull side of cable (look all places for it)
do this
person one tries to lift hood
person 2 tries to pull cable.
person 3 pulls cab handle, POP!
ok its not cable driven its electric
hot wire the solenoid. find the wire to it and hot wire it.
we have to Australia cars here so our alldata.com is of no help.

How do you open the bonnet on a fiat punto elx 1.2 2001 as my bonnet cable has snapped

You should be able to get at it from under the vehicle if you have small enough arms and hands. The cable is at the top of the engine bay and connects to what looks like a curled piece of wire(which is the release catch). It is barely visible and diffycult to operate. Someone pressing down on the front centre of the hood (directly above the catch mechanism) will make things easier for the unfortunate individual that has to stick his head under the vehicle. It can be done without the need for tools. When you do get it open and need to replace the cable do not just pull the old cable out. It is a nightmare to replace without a draw wire. Fasten a piece of string or wire at least 2 meters(6-7 feet) to the old cable before removing it. Then remove the end of the string from the old cable and connect it to the new one before drawing the new cable into place using the draw wire. Some insulation tape over the end of the cable where it joins to the draw wire(to prevent it catching on something) will ease matters.

Bonnet cable broken, how to open bonnet

The cable can break either at the left or right hand latch - if you are lucky as I was, the cable operating the left hand catch was the broken one, and was broken near the right hand latch release mechanism.
I was able to open the right hand latch with the bonnet release from inside thecar.
You then have to get a piece of fairly strong wire(I used a 2.8mm welding rod) and bend a fairly tight hook in one end. Using a torch so you can see the bonnet release cable, feed the wire in through the grill and hook the swage on the end of the cable that operated the left hand latch. A frim pull on the wire should then release the left hand latch.
Good luck!

Garage said the cable is broken.

you have to release the bonnet and replace the entire cable houseing and inner cable. if you can send a picture of the grill I can look at how to release it from the outside so you can fix it.

Audi a4 bonnet release mechanism broken

This can be over come by getting a pair of vise grips and gripping the cable that is sticking out and pulling it out, once you have opened it Do not attempt to close the hood without replacing the cable. You have maybe only one chance at this so if you don't succeed you will make it harder for a mechanic to fix it. a new cable is not to difficult to replace, buy the cable and housing replace both.

Bonnet cable come away fron front catch on bonnet

replace it.... buy a new cable assembly and install it (unless, of course, that's not exactly what's wrong with it). You say it keeps 'coming out'... tell you what, take a photo of 'where it's coming out' and perhaps we will be able to help you.
