SOURCE: Identify the belt tensioner pulley on 1998 Ford Windstar 3.8 L

Its on the lower part of the engine....It was much easier for me to jack the van up and take the the front passenger side tire off..... and I used a 13mm wrench to grab the bolt on the tensioner to push up and then had my daughter put the belt on while I was pushing the tensioner...........of course you can buy a tensioner wrench at a local part store, but I just like to do it the "old shade tree mechanic way!!!"

I took the timing belt off and didn't mark it i need a diagram on how to set the marking.

Here are some assistance for you I hope. Remove Your Timing Belt
  • 1

Disengage the negative battery cable in all models.

  • 2

Detach the passenger inner splash-shield and wheel cover, the accessory drive and timing belts, the tensioner and the crankshaft pulley.

  • 3

Remove the spark plugs, catalytic converter and idler pulley in 2000 and older Ford Focuses. These models also require the crankshaft be turned to "Top Dead Center" (TOC) and a crankshaft timing peg be inserted. Turn the shaft to the right against the timing peg.

  • 4

Undo the retaining fasteners and lift the timing belt cover off the engine. Align the crank and camshaft timing marks. Older models call for undoing the water pump pulley and valve cover before locking the camshaft in place.

  • 5

Release the tensioner's bolt. Turn the arm to the right 14 degrees and place a 1/8 inch drill bit in the opening. This secures the belt tensioner in place.

  • 6

    Take the timing belt off.

Install Your Timing Belt
  • 1

Replace the timing belt counterclockwise motion beginning at the crankshaft.

  • 2

Unlock the tensioner. Recheck the timing marks by turning the crankshaft two rotations to the right.

  • 3

Tauten the tensioner's pulley bolt to 15 to 22 foot pounds (20 to 30 Nm) in 2003 and younger models and to 17 to 20 foot pounds (22 to 28 Nm) in older Focuses. Remove the crankshaft timing peg. Reconnect the crankshaft pulley and secure to 81 to 96 foot pounds (110 to 130 Nm) and 81 to 89 foot pounds (110 to 120 Nm) respectively.

  • 4

Replace the splash shield, front wheel, timing belt cover, accessory drive belt and tensioner and any other items that were disconnected.

  • 5

Hook up the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check that the timing belt is functioning properly

How do I change the Belt on my 2007 Pontiac G5 gt Most importantly How do I get the tension off the tensioner?

Do a quick sketch of the pulleys and the path of the v-belt around them. The tensioner pulley is the smooth faced one that the smooth back of the v-belt runs around. In the middle of the pulley is what looks like a nut. It is in fact a fixed spindle. If you fit on a correct socket you can push the tensioner pulley against its spring by pulling down firmly in an clockwise direction. This removes tension from the v-belt which should then be slipped off with little effort . Fit the new v-belt over the driven pulleys in the same orientation as the old one (your sketch should be your reference) remove tension on the tensioner pulley as before to get the belt over the last pulley which should be the small diameter alternator pulley,

Putting on drive belt on a focus

My sincere apologies for the delayed response.
I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions.
I have only been a free contributor to this site for the past 4-months.

I do not know if you still need this information, but I am going ahead and answering it anyway.

CLICK
on the following LINK. It has several Belt Diagrams, one which will match your specific engine and options (AC/No AC, Power Steering, .etc) that you will need.

Regarding HOW:
Standard Rule to Removal the Serpentine Belt:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See the Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys
.
Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.

b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right etc.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum ("open") allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. While keeping the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "open" Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them.
Let me know if this helped...
Again my apologies..

I need a diagram of the serpentine for a ford focus 2002 z3

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You can look at this picture for serpentine belt for your 2002 Ford Focus Z3--

3103caa.jpg

Ford Focus Z3 Serpentine belt Removal--

· Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Use a wrench to remove two bolts and take off the drive belt lower cover.
· Note belt routing and make a sketch for your reference if you don't have a belt routing diagram from the manufacturer.
· Find the belt tensioner pulley. Use your wrench to rotate the tensioner pulley by pulling clockwise on a bolt in the center of the pulley. Slip the old belt off of the tensioner pulley.
· Release the belt tensioner. Slip the belt off of the pulleys and install the new belt according to your routing diagram.
· Rotate the tensioner again to allow the new belt to slip over the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner again. Replace the drive belt lower cover and lower the vehicle.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
