Tapping Noise at idle 1994 Dodge Dakota 3.9L 5 speed manual

When I'm at idle, there is a tapping noise. Sounds like a loose valve? Can I tighten the valves on this p/u by removing the valve covers? How do I silence the noise. I've tried Marvel magic oil, engine lifter stuff and nothing. Any answers would be appreciated.

Ok. I removed one valve cover today 6/4/09 and found no where to adjust.I used the handle part of a large screwdriver and placed pressure to the bottom arm and it seemed to reduce the noise. It has one bolt in the middle of the arm. I tried to tighten but it did no good. So I brought it back to the beginning
So how or what do I do to stop the noise. Sounds like a loose valve from my old car days, but louder.

Tapping noise from engine

That could be a whole host of things. If the tapping increases in speed with rpm you are looking possibly internal but if not the problem could be something loose like the exhaust pipe.

Audi a4 1998 tapping noise only when idles under valve cover

Sounds like a bad valve lifter or a valve out of adjustment. It's probably a bad hydraulic valve lifter. In idle, when the oil pressure is lowest, it is not filling with oil. When the motor revs up, oil pressure rises and fills the faulty lifter.
If you do have mechanical lifters, the valve is probably out of adjustment. If you do car work, pull the valve cover and see if it's adjustable. Of course, you'll need the specs from VW/Audi.
Otherwise, it's probably a shop job.
Sorry.

The front is making a tapping noise

Could be valve lifters tapping which is most common, there could be a vacuum leak or something rubbing against the fan.

ENGINE HAS A TAPPING NOISE AND IT SPEEDS UP WHEN THE ENGINE SPEEDS UP, SOUNDS LIKE IT IS IN THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT

Make sure the oil is not low first, this sounds like valve trane noise, check the valve rocker clearances they may be loose.

Vw t4 '03 tapping noise

Hi,

Next time it's tapping at idle, press the brake pedal hard several times. If it stops tapping then gradually returns then it is a noisy vacuum pump.

It can go on like that or years (if you can put up with the tapping that is!) if you start to loose servo assistance while manovering then it's time to change the pump.

Hope that helps.

CHECK THE OIL LEVEL, IT MAY BE LOW AND WHAT YOU HEARS IS A VALVE TAPPING.

2001 Chevy Metro

Check Utube for lifter tap, valve tap, and rod bearing noise. If you pull each spark plug one at a time, plugging it back in after each one, the tapping will go away if it's a rod bearing. At any rate, on your next oil change add some valve-medic or similar additive for valve noise. Make sure you follow direction or you will get massive lifter tap if you pour it into a cold engine.
