I have a 2001 Lincoln town car, executive, 4.6 motor... I usually hear the fuel pump hum when I turn key on, not so now... Now when I turn key to start and wait a few seconds, I don't hear fuel pump when ignition is turned on... The engine cranks but won't start. Is the pump bad? Thanks.

I have considered checking the relay and fuse not sure where they are don't have a 2001 owners manual. Googled it and didn't have much luck... I think I found relay and there were two that looked a like... I swittched them out and still no hum or start... Will try to locate fuse next. Thanks.

It does sound like the fuel pump. You could try changing fuel filters first. You should never run your car with less than a quarter of a tank, it sucks dirt particles off the bottom of the tank. It messes up fuel injectors as well. Always run a Lucas fuel treatment at every oil change. Good Luck.

You say t pump is coming on, but do you fuel coming up to the fuel injector rail? You can check for fuel by pushing down the valve located at the left front side of fuel rail. It looks like a tire air fill stem. Be very careful as fuel is under 40 psi pressure and can spray all over the place. do this with engine OFF and have a rag to cover the valve. Just press with tip of screwdriver and be sure valve is covered. If a little gas come out,you know you have fuel. If not gas then check fuel delivery system i.e pump, filter, lines or pickup tube.

If there is fuel in the rail, then there is most likely a problem with the control module (computer).
Check for fault codes with an OBD II reader. You can usually rent one at your local part store. You can look up fault codes to find out where the problem might lie.

More questions, just leave in comments.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: I have a 1992 Lincoln Mark vii lsc. Fuel pump problem!

This sounds like the PCM has taken a turn for the worst. The pcm relay sends power to the fuel relay for 2 seconds to prime the fuel system just before start up.
Then the pcm ungrouds the signal for a prove out.

SOURCE: 1998 Lincoln Town Car cranks but does not start.

possible just not probable. you need to see if there is any pressure to fuel rail. if not youre going to have to by pass the fuel pump and see if it is getting voltage. if so then apply a seperate voltage and ground wire to the pump to see if it kicks on. come to think of it, it could be the PATS system(security) that shuts down the system. it will crank but will not fire. your ford dealer will need to reprogram the system.

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.

Can you hear the pump when the key is turned on? If yes replace the ignition module, if your not getting fuel replace your fuel pump, requires dropping the fuel tank.

Have a 2001 olds alero 2.4 liter/when i start the car, should the hum from the the fuel pump alwas be heard or just when the preesure is low, have turned the key on a time or two and did not hear a hum,i may...

you should only hear it when you first turn the key on for 5 second prime. after car is running it won't be noticeable, but if your hearing it run and hum, your driving on borrowed time!
the gas in the tank is what keeps the motor lubed

Cranks but will not start headlights come on 100,000 miles have never tuned up 2001 town car

Listen for the fuel pump to run for the first 5 seconds after you turn the key to "ON".

If you don't hear the pump run (it's in the fuel tank), check the fuse per your owner manual, check the fuel pump relay. If not one of them, then you need a fuel pump.

If pump is running, then you have an ignition issue. Check for spark at the spark plug.

Navigator will not start turning over fine , just cut off at redlight, would not restart lincoln navigator 2001

that sounds like it could be a fuel pump. have someone turn on the key but not start the truck while you listen by the tank for a humming sound. IT will only last a second or two. If you dont hear anything then your pump is bad. The filter could be clogged also. before tearing off your gas tank replace the fuel filter, which you would do if you replaced the pump anyway.

remove the cover from your computer under the hood and check all the fuses.

1986 Lincoln Towncar will not start. I can't hear the fuel pump priming when ignition is the run position; can anybody please help me?

try restting the inertia switch in the trunk. When you turn key to "ON", the fule pump will run for only 5 seonds if the engine does not start. Listen at the fuel tank for humming of the pump. The PCM, Powertrain Control Module controls the fuel pump relay. So, when you turn key on, the power relay powers up the PCM and the PCM powers up the fuel pump relay.
