SOURCE: FUEL PRESSURE DROPS WHEN PUMP STOPS.HARD TO START

The fuel pressure check valve in the electric fuel pump has failed, you will have to replace the fuel pump, it is in the gas tank, also replace the filter at the same time or the warranty on the new pump will be voided.

SOURCE: I have a 1999 ford explorer 4.0 SOHC here we go

sounds like the idle air control valve to me, you might just need to clean it with some throttle cleanner but you'll need a new gasket that only cost 3bucks or just get a new one, I just went through this cold start junk myself...

Wont start

Fuel filter clogged, fuel pump relay or pump faulty. Have your fuel pressure checked. If pressure is good, then check igniton parts such as your coil or igniton module. If you car backfires or cranks much slower than normal, it may have jumped time.

Car wont start not the battery

Starter switch, starter relay, or starter motor. If it cranks, but don't start, check fuel pressure. If pressure is not good, then replace fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and/or fuel pump (in that order) If fuel pressure is ok, then its ignition. check and/or replace coil or igniton module.

05 c240 turns over won't start

most likely you have a bad crank sensor or fuel problem you need to check fuel pressure ,if you have enough pressure ,most likely you need crank position sensor,if you don`t have fuel pressure ,it might be your fuel pump relay or the pump, i would start with the relay first very unexpensive. you can also hear the pump if it`s working by cranking the engine and listening rear of the car for a humming sound .
good luck
