I have a 2003 3.4l Impala that just shut down while driving, almost like an alternator but did not loose power to lights, radio, power windows or locks. I tried to restart it when it happened by putting it in neutral, while coasting, but no crank. I pulled over and disconnected the battery for a couple of mins and tried to restart the car. No crank, it seemed to cut power off to my starter and fuel pump, when I took the key out of the ignition my parking lights stayed on and had to disconnect the battery to turn them off. My mechanic said to replace my ignition switch and key cylinder, with passlock, did that with no change. also checked fuses and relays, they are all receiving juice and none are blown. they tried to get codes but would not hook up, says error. my radio is also reading CAM ERR. Thank you for your help. this is driving me crazy, I have found cars that had similar errors but they had after market alarms, I have a base impala and have not done anything to it. thanks again for any and all help.

Very common for the Body Control Module to fail or a connection problem at the BCM. Have your mechanic try communicating with the Bcm. Also check the connections.

Gee not codes to read
leaves you with ECU or a module fault
fuel pump or fuel pump relay
bad fuel
while hot.. coils packs or crank angle sensor might be worth testing

hmmm, sounds like an ignition switch problem. Not the tumbler/key switch, the ignition switch.

SOURCE: wont start security light stays on

Body Control Module (BCM) on both counts. Find a shop in your town that specializes in electrical systems to test it. Beware, these can be intermittent problems, so make sure they keep it until the car does what you have observed. Expect to spend about $450 for the replacment. Dealers quoted me between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. By the way, a new BCM will probably only last you about 12 months.

Rear defrost stays on when car is shut off in 1996 impala ss

The rear defro does not have power going to it with the key off. This means there is somehow a short to power to this switch, if you can remove the switch check for power at the connection. If there is power there is a short, I will send you a schematic of the circuit.

Dashboard lights and gauges go out, windows won't work

Your alternator is out. Those are classic symptoms of alternating going out. The alternator recharges your electrical system and when it goes out a list of strange things go on inside the dash, and you won't be able to go very far on just a battery. I'm glad you at least made it home. But yes you will need a new alternator for sure. Please rate this response so I can get my ratings back up to 90% at least.

Battery light went on while driving and radio went off in my 2003 pt cruiser

Check or have checked the alternator. If it is bad the radio is not the only thing that will shut off. When the battery drains enough the engine will shut down.

1999 town and country van, battery indicator light came on, stayed on, then power was lost to the van slowly- first the radio, then then abs light went on then the windows didn't work finally full display...

double check the battery terminal or wire connector if loose,go to nearest autozone to check the load test on the alternator, your alternator might loosing it already.

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala that shuts off randomly in the middle of driving it down the road, doing 25 or 60 mph. The problem occurs more with the A/C on and I notice it starts to happen when the car warms...

you need to check out the alternator or it might have an electric problem...
when the car is cool...start it and turn the windshield wipers, the radio, and the head lights and rear lights...if it dies then it SHOULD be the alternator...
Good Luck!
