Cable and linkages are likely seizedwith rust and/or ice. Remove bottom caliper bolt to remove caliper up and off rotor.Un-bolt caliper support to allow removal of rotor. Make sure parking brake eyelet protruding throuth backing plate isin the off position that is pointing to rear ofcar; secure with vice grips if necessary. Now proceed to tap rear face of rotor all arround on inside to remove Depending how badly it is corroded and internally seized,(also worn groove) ,rotor and internalparking brake shoes will have to be sacrifiiced and replaced. Purchase new hold - kit emergency brake shoes and rotors for both rear wheels
This means you have something worn out in the brakes. It is usually an accurate indicator. You could be low on Brake fluid, but then something is leaking and that is not good.
You need to check the Brake pads, Rotors, and take off the rear Rotors to check the Emergency brakes. Remember to clean the debris off all the sensors you see with Electrical wires on them. Remember to tell the Brake place if you have someone work on it, that you want the Emergency brakes checked.
I have had some clients go to both a Dealer and a Brake place and both places failed to find the bad Emergency brakes.
Remove the brake fitting retaining bolt from the caliper and disconnect the flexible brake hose from the caliper. Plug the hose and the caliper fitting.
Remove the caliper locating pins. Lift the caliper off the rotor and anchor plate using a rotating motion.
WARNING
Do NOT pry directly against the plastic piston or damage to the piston will occur.
Rear disc brake caliper removal
Rear disc brake caliper installation
To install:
Position the caliper assembly above the rotor with the anti-rattle spring located on the lower adapter support arm. Install the caliper over the rotor with a rotating motion. Make sure the inner pad is properly positioned.
Install the caliper locating pins and start them in the threads by hand. Tighten them to 19-26 ft. lbs. (26-35 Nm).
Install the brake hose on the caliper with a new gasket on each side of the fitting outlet. Insert the retaining bolt and tighten to 30-40 ft. lbs. (40-54 Nm).
Bleed the brake system, install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
Pump the brake pedal prior to moving the vehicle to position the linings.
you should replace the pad cause the will have absorbed the fluid, if the seal is good on the caliper they can just be cleaned, and wash the rotors wit brake clean, replace the axle seals and all should be ok
remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper on.then remove caliper.remove pads.you may have to save clips on old pads.now dont let the caliper hang it may hurt the brake line tie it up.once pads are removed open the brake resivoir (where you put the brake fluid).now use a c-clamp to push in the caliper piston(the round part sticking out).once piston is all the way in put new pads on the caliper.don't force pads over roter.line up caliper with the bracket.put bots though the holes and tighten.do both sides and fill up the fluid put cap on.done.no bleeding required.
If you have the caliper and retaining rings off the park brake must be holding it. This vehicle has small parking brake shoes that apply to the inside of rotor hat. Try backing off the adjustment and tap the sides of the hat to free them up.
Lift the rear disc brake caliper off the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate (2B582).
CAUTION: Do not allow grease, oil, brake fluid or other contaminants to contact the brake pads. Remove the brake pads by pushing inward and rotating the pad up.
NOTE: Use a block of wood or used pad to protect the piston and boots. Retract the caliper piston (2196) into the rear disc brake caliper.
If you are just removing and replacing the pads, you will need, i believe a 13mm wrench, a screw driver (flat head) and a "turn in caliper compression tool" because your rear calipers also act as your emergency brake when it's engaged. You will see 2 divits across from eachother on your caliper piston. Once you have the tool inplace and the slots lined up with the tool, turn clockwise and turn the caliper piston in. If it will not turn, then it's defective and will need to be replaced before you can install the new pads. If you need a turn in caliper tool, you can rent one at any autozone or advance auto, pay for it up front and get a complete refund when you are done and bring it back.
Good luck!
JeanLuc,
I have a 93 MGM also and if I remember right, all you have to do is press and hold the hour (H) or minute (M) button to get it to change the time. I hope this helps!
