SOURCE: Bonnet latch will not open and bonnet is in closed position

the cable connecting the handle to the latch is broken. remove the front grille and access the latch assembly. you will be able to release by hand and then replace the cable.

SOURCE: Bonnet cable routing Mitsubishi Evo VI

Your cable is generally sold as a one piece unit...cable inside housing. (same as a bicycle brake cable) Many even come with the release handle attached. Therefore, you simply feed the new one in exactly where the old one went and attach it to the lock mechanism. This can easily be done by attaching a wire to the latch end of the old unit and pulling it out from the drivers compartment, then attaching the new one to the wire and pulling it back through. In that way, you don't need to see it to install it (like snaking a wire through a finished wall, without opening the wall.)
If you do it carefully, it should not be that difficult.
Good Luck!!

Anybody know how to get into the bonnet if the release catch cable has snapped at the bonnet end? Audi A3, 1.8Tfsi 2007 (57 reg).

Can you see the end of the cable through the front grille? On some vehicles you can use a extra long flat screwdriver to push the release through the front grille.
Some S3 and A3 models have a small access hole between the bonnet and grille. A thin wire hook and a lot of poking around can release the bonnet.
if this doesn't work you might have to destroy the front grille to get access.

Bonnet relese wih no cable at all completeley snapped off not a shred at bonnet end

usually down to a snapped cable usually seized mechanism and it is fairly easy to get the bonnet up, first if you look up under the front of the bonnet you can see the two bolts that hold it in place, then using a ratchet, extension, universal joint and a 13mm socket you can undo the bolts and lift the bonnet enough to then release the catch or cable, it can be a bit tricky to do,Also the cables have a habit of coming off the release handle, if you remove the handle held on by 2x 10mm bolts and see if it is still attached. i am going off a fiat as i do not know what car it is,

I am unable to fjnd the bonnet catch on my porsche 928 (1983) please can you help

1986 model has the bonnet release inside the footwell on the driver side. I'm referring to a right hand drive model, the level is on the right, and is black with a plastic housing to protect the carpet.

The safety catch after you've pulled the release is in the centre at the front of the bonnet. With your hand palm up put fingers in and under at about 45 degrees and you'll feel the lever which you need to lift while easing up the bonnet.

Hope this helps!

Renault clio bonnet wont open

Get a second person to pull bonnet catch and you push up and down on the bonnet whilst catch is being pulled. 1, cable possibly stretched, 2, look at bonnet catch under the coloum to see if wire is attached, 3, try and lie under car and look up the back of the bulkhead to see the catch and release it manually. Hope that helps.

Ant open bonnet

Hopefully the cable has not snapped. Have someone else lean on the bonnet a little. (Not too much or you will dent it) Try and operate the catch while they are leaning and releasing. Or sometimes dust can accumulate on the catch. Perhaps you can spray under the bonnet with a can of WD40 and hit the catch. Try the above trick again after you have sprayed it. Once you get it open find the cause before you close it again :)

Bonnet cable snapped, need advice on how to open bonnet

Most of the time the cable snaps at the release handle. If you remove the handle and get the end of the cable, you can cut off the cable jacket and use needle nose pliers or vise grips to grab the cable and pull to release bonnet.
