98 Chrysler Sebring 2.5 6cyl wont start. engine wont even turn

My car was at the mechanics for about 3 weeks because it would not run smoothly (spitting and sputtering while driving until about 30 miles and hour then ran fine.) He changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap and crankshaft sensor but when he said the car was ready and i went to pick it up i got in and turned the key and only heard some small noise like something turning (my guess is the starter thingy that turns to connect to the fly wheel was turning but not making connection so no other sound was heard) of course i left it there and the mechanic called me a few days later and said i needed a new flywheel.
Well i towed it home last night and now don't know what to do. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Thanks for your suggestions and to me it sounds like you guys are both leading me in the right direction. I do know what it sounds like when the flywheel needs to be replaced and after installing the starter last night and trying to start the car it sure sounds like it is the flywheel. Thanks Again!!!

Check to make sure your starter bolts not loose or 1 fell out. your starter drive pinion gear is broken or the fly wheel is broken. take the starter to advance auto or auto zone to check it out . buy a fly wheel dropping the tranny to have it put on going to cost you .good luck.

check battery + cables . check starter and fuse link. if engine dont turn . not start condition. check fuel pump +filter. the cam sensor in the distributer . the pcm use a scanner . because it help save lot of money from guessing. clean injectors they causes engine to run rough.

Sounds like your starter ruined your flywheel. replacing the flywheel is not easy. also expensive. call a couple of tranny shops to get an estimate.

Sounds like you damaged the engine by running it without oil. Sorry but you probably need a new engine.

Seriously overheated my 1999 sebring then something broke in the engine and know the engine wont turn even when on jacks and turned by hand. can u tell me what u think happened

If you overheated your engine to the point where it won't turn over, even by hand, then the engine is seized, probably due to the piston rings getting hot enough to melt into the cylinder walls. Start looking for a replacement engine.

Did you check the timing belt to see if it broke? It ha a 2.5 and it has belt. Remove timing cover at the front of the engine and have someone crank it while you watch the cam to see if it turns. If it doesn't turn, replace the belt.

Go to AutoZone or somewhere that will pull the codes for free. Much better way to start the process. But sounds like the Torque Converter Clutch. Could try a Tranny flush to start with, could be nasty transmission fluid.

Did you cycle the key a couple times. Sometimes it needs to reset the computer after the battery dies. Also, try holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning over. This will help if flooded with gas from starting so many times.

2000 chrysler seabring stopped running while driving down street and will not start back up. What could be the problem?

With out going into great detail, you basically need 3 things for engine to run. Fuel, compression, and spark. All 3 can be affected by various items. Perhaps more details will help & how mechanically inclined you are.
