Cant figure out hw 2 change the fussable link on an 89 Toyota Tercel ??
To repair any blown fuse link use the following procedure:
Care must be taken when fitting the three fuse links into the butt connector as the internal diameter is a snug fit for three wires. Make sure to use a proper crimping tool. Pliers, side cutter, etc. will not apply the proper crimp to retain the wires and withstand a pull test.
Heat shrink tubing must be slipped over the wire before crimping and soldering the connection.
Do not mistake a resistor wire for a fuse link. The resistor wire is generally longer and has print stating, "Resistor-don\'t cut or splice\'\'.
When attaching a single No. 16, 17, 18 or 20 gauge fuse link to a heavy gauge wire, always double the stripped wire end of the fuse link before inserting and crimping it into the butt connector for positive wire retention.

I did a key code search on a 1993 toyota corolla . The key code was located on the passenger front doors lock cylinder (door lock tumbler). You have to disassemble the door panel and remove the lock cylinder from the door to read the tiny numbers on the lever of the lock cylinder..I would recommend calling your local toyota dealer and confirming it is on the lock cylinder before tearing apart the door....You would have to give them the code to get a new key cut. hope this info helps..

If you had a short that large before you started working on the batt cables, it would have burned long before it did. Check your work over and see where it's grounding. You can make a temporary link by using a new piece of wire the same as the gauge at both ends of the link and sectioning in a short piece of smaller ga. wire. Hopefully you didn't damage the alternator or other electronics. The original problem sounds like possibly the fuel pump anti drain-back valve is bad (integral with pump) Testing pressure will verify that.
You can disconnect alternator, but the fuse method you mentioned sounds more reasonable.
