I have a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country that started out making a grinding noise and the steering would become stiff when turning. Now it leaks power steering fluid almost immediately putting it in and a loud whining noise and almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. What could the problem be?

Sounds like power steering pump is shot.If it ran out of fluid and there is a leak somewhere else,it will burn the pump up.

SOURCE: Van won't start. Just makes a clikcing noise. Horn sounds weak.

THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE STARTER OR JUST REPLACE THE SOLENOID ON TOP OF THE STARTER IF YOU CAN BUY IT SEPERATE.

SOURCE: front end grinding and vibration

CHECK THE HUB BEARINGS. THEY ARE SEALED FROM THE FACTORY AND MAY BE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Ignition key will not turn

Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!

SOURCE: Vibration/Humming/Grinding noises when stopping or turning left.

when turning left vehicle distributes weight to right front wheel bearing causing load. since u describe a noise in right front while driving straight i would suspect failed right front wheel bearing. see if your noise changes/goes away while turning right that should tell u 4 sure

How to oil Steering Shaft on Chrysler town & country

Are you certain the grinding is coming from the sterring shaft, or is it simply transmitted through the shaft from the sterring box? Grinding of this critical aspect of controlling your vehicle is tremendously dangerous. If the noise happens when turning the sterring wheel, there is something critically wrong-get the vehilce to a shop ASAP.

2001 town and country will not start put a new battery in still not starting all it does is click and then after awhile it will start

Check the harness that runs under the power steering resevoir. Mine (power steering) had a very small leak that saturated this harnees and turned the insulation of the wires to clay!!! Found a harness on that popular auction site for @$100...Not bad to replace either. Took the time and replace power steering tank and hoses while I was at it. Have not had a problem since!

Engine whining

check your power steering fluid level. when level gets low low the pump will start to make noise, also in colder weather the fluid becomes thicker and if the pump is starting to fail it will create noise also,

Steering gets very stiff when making turns.

Sounds like power steering pump may be low on fluid. Thats the first thing I would check.

Power steering making a whirring noise

If it is making the noise when turning the wheel while stationary or parallel parking, then the fluid level may be low.

If it is not low then the pump itself is wearing out if it has a grinding noise.

Changing the power steering pump is recommended.

Good luck on this repair.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan. When turning the wheel either way, the car makes a horrible grinding noise and the steering wheeling makes a whistling noise at the same time.

i don,t know what the whistling noise is but it sounds like your cv joints may need to be looked at. the bearings in the cv joint maybe going bad.
