Where does starting fluid go when a 1998 windstar wont start acts like its out of gas

hi abby.
Starting fluid is sprayed into the engine intake near the air filter, or into the carburetor bore or a spark plug hole of an engine to get added fuel to the combustion cylinder quickly.

96 ciera 2.2 ran fine. parkedat night next morn wont start.its getting fuel and fire but sounds like its not even trying to start

Check for spark.. pull one spark plug out set it on bare metal(away from cyl hole fuel could light from spark) turn vehicle over and look for spark should be a nice lightning bolt looking spark... blue spark is weak spark.. and see if it's getting spark...,, if not,,."try new plugs.,wires, distributor cap&rotor " also first.spray a little starting fluid down the injection system turn it over and see if it fires.if it does then it's a fuel issue prob not electrical... try that.hope it helps

Where do I spray starter fluid in an 05 chrysler pacifica..ran out of gas and hoping it will start with the spray..did put gas in

Remove the air intake from the air filter container to the throttle body. Use only a quick shot of starting fluid. Can you hear the fuel pump run? Power cycling the key should get fuel flowing and is safer than starting fluid.

Which senser controls the starting of my chevy s10 it will not start

There is no sensor that controls starting. No starts are usually from lack of gas or loss of spark. That is, if the battery is strong enough-charged up enough-that it will crank the engine over.
If your engine is cranking over, check for a fuel problem: spray some starting fluid into the air intake-take the big air boot off where it connects to the engine and spray a shot or two of starting fluid in there. Then try starting. If the engine fires a bit and tries to run, then you know it wasn't getting gas. You will then need to test and check if the fuel pump is working and putting gas up to the engine.
If the starting fluid made no difference, then checking for spark would be next-maybe the ignition system has a problem.
Let me know what you found out, and we can go from there. Have any repairs been done recently? What year S-10, what size engine, and how many miles? Did this just start happening? The more you can tell us, the better chance we have of helping you.

Where is carb on a 98 chevy cavalier

Well it doesn't have one. GM cars built after 1988 are fuel injected.
You could check fuel pressure with a gauge, and also try using starting fluid sprayed into the intake hose to boost fuel supply.

Cranks, why no start?

Usually because of an ignition or gas related problem. You need to check for spark at the plugs and for gas at the engine.

A quick method to check for a gas problem is to spray some starting fluid into the air intake on the throttle body. Take off the big boot from air filter housing to the engine, spray a shot of fluid into the engine, then try to start it. If it fires up and tries to run from the fluid for a few seconds, then you know it is a fuel problem. Maybe the fuel pump has quit working, or the fuel filter is clogged. If both are good, maybe a fuel injector circuit problem, less common but possible.

If nothing happens from the starting fluid, it may be ignition related-not getting spark. Pull off a spark plug wire from a spark plug and hold the plug wire end terminal about 1/4 inch from an engine bolt or ground. Have someone crank the engine over from the key and watch for a consistent, blue, snapping spark. If no spark, test a few other plug wires to verify no spark at all. So it is not just one ignition coil not working, but none of them produce spark. No spark means the ignition system needs diagnosing. Sometimes it is the ignition control module that goes bad-it can be tested at any parts store. Post back and we can go from there.

96 chevy s10 v6 stalls after i start it up

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I ran outta gas on my 1998 chevy silverado v.6 vortec. i put more gas in it and pumped the accelerator a few times and it still wont start. how can i fix it is it simple

Best way to fix it when you run out of gas is this. Because you ran out of gas, means your fuel filter is out. When you run out of gas, you end of getting like a air blockage in the line. Now, professional way is to take fuel filter off and fill with gas and put back on, BUT i will tell you a back yard mechanic secret way. Is get a can of starting fluid ( you can get at any auto parts store) and while someone is in side the Pickup, have them ready to turn the key. You are outside with the hood up, and you will be spraying a little bit of the starting fluid in the air intake of directly in carb area ( if carborated) but just spray into air intake. Have them crank the engine, at same time you will spray starter fluid in air intake, just a couple of quick sprays. You will notice it will start and maybe die again. That is normal, you might have to do this a couple times to get things flowing. HOWEVER, what normally happens when you run out of gas, the fuel filter picks up all that junk that has been gathered in the bottom of fuel tank and it has clogged your filter. FOR SURE, if you replace your fuel filter, it will solve this problem. Thank You, and I hoped this helped you.
