I doubt it. If the engine is cranking, the starter is working. If the engine will not start, you need to know if you have spark at the plugs, fuel pressure at the injectors, and normal compression.
It sounds like you may have picked up some small debris from the bottom of the gas tank when you ran it empty. You may need to run a fuel/injector cleaning solution through the next tank of gas to clear the debris and consider changing your fuel filter too. Sea Foam is a great fuel additive and I recomment trying it full strength. Hope this helps!
sounds like water ingress to either a control module or the coil pack, check all control box locations eg footwells for water and then check the engine bay for loose or naked wires, dry and clean and possibly cover with a plastic bag etc and it should be fine.
Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.
have you check starter get it tested as well as the alternator.
