SOURCE: key fob does not unlock the doors

The key fob has an actual key inside that slides out of the remote which you can then use to open the door should the remote not work. I had the same thing happen to me when I first owned our 2008. There is a tiny lever on the front of the remote that slides over "unlocking" the key inside so that you may slide it out to open your door. The loop on the end of the remote for your key ring is attached to the end of the hidden key. I know this is too late to help the person posting the question but perhaps it will help someone else who finds themselves in the same situation.

You'll need to replace the button cell battery inside, which in itself is a pain. The design makes it quite difficult to remove the battery. My husband ended up using needle nose pliers to carefully pull the battery out.

I believe the doors have to be unlocked before the remote can open them. If they are not unlocking by remote, it seems a common solution is to remove the IDO fuse in the fuse box under the hood, and simply put it back in. This resets the electronic problems and seems to allow everything to work again. If the problem reoccurs regularly it may be because one or more locks are not functioning properly causing the system to shut them down. Lubrication usually works well.

SOURCE: can't unlock liftgate 1996 minivan

I have had the same type of problem and the only way I could open it was to remove the plastic panel on the inside of the lift gate and manually open it.( One can look down inside to see where the latching mechanism is and move the lever. ) Then i had to re-attach the lock mechanism arm to the latch.. You can also check to see if you are getting electricity at the solinoid at the same time, and get a new one from the parts house or dealer. Hope this helps you, Rick

My 2004 Town and country van had to be jump started and now key fob won't lock or unlock doors.Took key fob to locksmith he said key fob was working, van was not reading signal and he didn't know what

The fob may need to be reprommed to the car. Do the following:

Grab your working remote. Push the LOCK button five times, allowing exactly two seconds to pass between each press of the LOCK button. Insert the ignition key and turn it to RUN. Push and hold UNLOCK on the working remote for 6 seconds. Push and hold PANIC for one second while continuing to hold UNLOCK. Release both buttons at the same time.
Push any button on the remote to program it. Then push any button on the remote that was already programmed. It has to be reprogrammed. The remote is now programmed to the vehicle. Turn the key to OFF.

I can't get my passenger side door to open or unlock with key fob. It's a 2013 town and country van.

Hello,
Either the key fob battery has died, (which is mostly not the case considering it is roughly a year old), or their is in issue in the receiver that reads the key fob signal, One other point to this is that even after these issues are resolved you may have to have the key fob recalibrated to the vehicle's bcm. Your may want to check with the dealer to see if there have been any recalls or technical service bulletins concerning this issue. In the end you most like will have to take it to the dealer anyway because many shops are not equipped to deal with these new types of issues. Hope this helps . MJ

Door locks don't work

I had the same problem . Free solution was to pull yellow 20A IOD fuse in right front corner of fuse box under hood, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert fuse. Should solve problem as long as you don't lock doors with FOB. You can unlock doors with FOB, but apparently locking with FOB causes the problem. Otherwise you can pay to have the computer reset at the dealer, but the free solution worked for me.

Door locks

Daughter had same problem on '05 T&C. Neighborhood mechanic searched Internet and found 80-90 others with same problem right around 40,000 miles.

Permanent solution is to have dealer reprogram computer for around $50 which is what my daughter chose to do because of inconvenience of not being able to lock doors with FOB when getting baby/carseat out of vehicle.
