2002 3.4 pontiac grand am, upper rad hose collapses during cool down? what could cause?

Gets up to operating temp. fine, cooling fans come on, everything seem ok, then on cool down upper hose collapses at some point, there is no external leaks, and holds pressure with a tester.

Check your hose to the overflow. A blockage here will cause that to happen

Pressure cap is stuck shut. Change it before it blows up a hose.

SOURCE: 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 6 Cyl - Cooling Fan Not Operating

the fan motor could just be bad, you can test this by removing the fan and connecting a wire to each terminal and to a battery. the wires hooked up one way will spin the fan and the other way will spin the fan backwards so you cant hook it up wrong. I hope that helps you out!

My 2001 Pontiac Grand am is overheating. Thermostat is good and is not losing coolant

Air pocket stuck near cooling fan switch. Look for a brass flat headed screw near the upper radiator hose. Crack it open slightly while the engine is running and at operating temperature. It'll bubble a bit. Close it when only coolant streams out of the hole (gently, it's brass so it can break easily).

Where is the fan temperature sensor located

actually, the ECM directing the sensor to actuate the switches. the engine thermostat is the actuator of the fans in the cooling system. and its located in the oulet port of the engine where the upper radiator hose is connected. (and or at the lower rad hose, some design on VWs).

My car temp gauge showed over heating at highway speed. Then upper rad hose blew. Pulled over and had car towed home. I have a Matco tools code reader. Computer doesn't show any codes. Why would that...

Using your tatco code reader, select current data (real-time data) and select engine coolant temp sensor (ECT). Run engine to operating temperature (A/C off). Monitor the temp reading - when the temp reaches approx 204 deg farenheit, the fans should kick on, after the temp drops to approx 198 deg farenheit, the fans should turn off. The fans are controled by the ECM (Engine Control Module). The ECM controls the cooling fan relays.

Pontiac grand am 2002 overheats, temp, jumps from 200 to 260 degres only after cold start, if i turn of the engine for a few minutes, to cool down the engine, it will work fine for the rest of the trip

when cold loosen rad cap slightly and run until engine fan kicks in then carefully with rag remove cap and check level( don't worry it won't be under pressure.) and top up if needed check coolant reservoir level as well.than secure rad cap

2002 pt cruiser overheating was told i need a new raditor and thermostat for 1 grand sounds fishy

Flush rad & change coolant & thermostat. Check operation of rad fan, & make sure it is coming on when engine reaches normal operating temperature. Be sure to bleed air out good when refilling rad/cooling system. Start engine & turn heater on when refilling & let rad fan come on & off at least 2 or 3 times before putting cap back on rad, and refill rad as needed as you do this. then fill return bottle to proper level & see what happens.

Car over heating when stopped in traffic but not when movin

Hi. the first test will be to open the hood and inspect the cooling fans. check to see if the fans are activating in intervals during the running cycle. if you don't see any fan rotation at all, this will confirm cooling fan failure and you will need to replace the fans or fan relay. Now, if the fans are running and the car is continuing to run hot when stopped, i would move to the next inspection point. the next problem spot will be a faulty water pump or faulty thermostat

If these two devices are malfunction in any way, it will cause the symptoms you are experiencing. at this point. the first thing is to make sure those fans are actually working.

Please rate and have a great day:)
