There has to be a short in your wiring from the shifter to the lights. maybe even at the lights. had the problem with my dads car and the only thing that was wrong was the wiring harness and we had the wrong bulb in the reverse socket.

Why do the reverse lights remain lit when the ignition is switched on and the suv is running. This happens in all gears. I removed the center console to look for the reverse light switch, and it seem

You may be looking in the wrong place. It is on the transmission. The switch must be pretty wimpy because it doesn't directly drive the reverse lights, but connects to a reverse light relay in the smart junction box. The relay could be stuck. Unplug the two wire connector at the transmission then turn the key to RUN and see if the reverse lights are still on. If they are on then the relay is stuck and needs to be replaced. If they are not on then the switch in the transmission is bad.

2002 Olds Olero /replace ignition switch

remove your radio, there will be 2 bolts to undo, switch will slide into dash, unplug harness turn key to remove cable, if ignition wont turn you may have to take ignition apart to remove cable. reinstall in reverse procedure. will need to relearn new key to be able to start. try to start, leave key in run position, theft/security light will be blinking. leave on for 15 min or light stops blinking, turn off turn back to run without trying to start. leave on for another 15 min. turn off then start

Need to find the reverse wire to hook up a peak backup camera thanks ernest

Hi!
You did not specify the yr and model of your vehicle, but the procedure is the same, remove the tail light assembly as specified on your owners manual to replace a light bulb. Apply the Parking Brake and turn the ignition switch to the RUN position (do not start the vehicle), press the brake pedal and place the Shifter in REVERSE. Remove the Reverse light bulb and use a test light grounded to the vehicle chassis to find which one of the two wires going into the reverse light socket is the 12v+, once located, replace REVERSE light bulb, place shifter lever in PARK and turn key OFF.
Splice the 12v+ wire and connect the 12v+ lead from your camera to it, get your Ground (-) from the vehicle chassis.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

The reverse lights and heater stay on after the car is off.

It isn't a fuse. A fuse will break the circuit if it is drawing too much power. What you have is circuits that are connected by the ignition switch, that should be disconnected when the key is off. This means that the ignition switch is not operating correctly, and either needs adjustment or replacement.
