2000 jeep radiator fan

When does the fan turn on. it seems since I had the water pump replaced the fan takes forever to go on.

Hi micro0711, the fan (which I assume is electric) works off of 3 corresponding pieces of equipment: the rad,the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor so if you have a 180 deg thermostat the coolant would circulate through the engine and generate heat once the coolant temp reaches approx 180 deg the thermostat opens the coolant temp sensor signals the fan to engage removing the heat from the radiator cooling surface maintaining a safe operating temp. If you find your temp is rising check to be certain there is power to the fan and also that the thermostsat is operating,hope this helps good luck

I replaced the water pump and radiator on our 2000 jeep grand cherokee 4wheel drive 4.7L. I am having clearance problems between the mechanical fan and the back of the electric fan.
it could be that the shaft on the new water pump is longer than the one on the original water pump, will need to measure it & see if there is any difference......cheers.

Sounds like your radiator fan is not working.
Have your replaced the fan or fan motor?
Fan motor will cost $100 /diy
Also, check for recall on this fan and motor through Jeep

Are you sure the radiator fan is kicking on?

That vehicle has a known problem with fan relays....

If the fans don't come on to cool the radiator then maybe it's the thermal fan switch, which sends the turn on signal to the fan relay, that might be bad.

How do i replace my water pump
it is located in the block of the engine. Follow your radiator hoses to the block. The top is where your thermostat is and the bottom is where your water pump is. ------------- start by taking off the shroud around fan blade, bolts on top of radaitor. pop in plugs on bottem. Shroud will slip by blade with radiator loose. Loosen bolts from tensioner and slip fan belt off Use a ratchet to take four bolts off of fan remove it set aside. Loosen all bolts from power sterring pump only one will have to be removed. From there you can slip out and replace water pump without much trouble. ------------ this will help.

My jeep is heating up to about 235-240 after about 10 minutes of driving with A/C on. It usally takes about 30 minutes or more to heat up without the A/C on. I have replaced the fan clutch and thermostat...
Sounds like a partially obstructed radiator, either external, leaves between a/c condenser and radiator, or internal...some cores plugged ...radiators are actually too small for engine in the first place, making them what I consider marginal even when new. A good clue to an internal blockage is if the radiator cannot be filled quickly...a really bad one requires coolant to be literally dribbled in when filling, but likely yours isnt that bad yet. Everything else you mentioned seems normal

My 2000 jeep cheerokee keeps overheating
You may want to check first if you are loosing or have inadequate water or cooling fluids on your radiator. There may be a leak or the radiator cap may no longer prevent the steam from escaping. check the radiator fans if they are turning. You can check the fan if it is working by pulling out the temp sensor at the lower radiator hose near the engine. The fan should blow at full once you unplug it. Check also the water pump in the engine if there are leaks. You may have it replaced.

Electric fan at radiator
I just had to tackle this same problem with own Jeep. I had to make a breaker type bar that I could bolt onto two places on the front of the serpentine belt pulley assembly, then take a big adjustable end wrench and, while the water pump is still attached to the block, wedge the adjustable wrench down against the side of the frame while pulling up on my breaker type bar. The breaker type bar goes clockwise while the main shaft goes counter-clockwise. It was a learning experience to say the least.
