Ford engine numbers for Australia

Hi all,
I have bought a 73 Mustang with a supposed 351 cleveland. It has a replacement motor built in Australia with the code JG71PL and then 56567K.
I have figured out that 'J' is Australianbuilt motor, and 'G' is the Broadmeadows plant. I also know that '71' is the model and 'PL' is the year and month. I just dont know where to find the codes to tell me what model, and figure out the year and month. I also do not know what the 56567K means. Can anyone help.
Cheers,
Pete

What is the engine capacity horse power for a 351 ford cleaverland .

351 "C" 4V 1970-1973 Cleveland
http://www.carmemories.com/ford-engine-specifications/351-engine-specs/351c.html
would have thought engine capacity would be what they wanted
351 cubic inches which converts to 5.75186 litre capacity
horse power in the link above is 300 BHP (brake horse power)

I have no idea myself but found the car memories web site that states the engine specifications and I hope it is correct and matches your engine ?
most likely it would be rounded up to a 5.8 litre capacity

351 windsor

You can tell by looks or by the VIN number if the engine is original.
The fifth digit could be H or Q. H is for the Windsor engine and Q is for Cleveland. The Windsor looks like an ordinary 289 or 302 engine, the Cleveland is a big head 400 version. I don't think they used a 4bbl Windsor but they did use a 2bbl Cleveland so that is not a good example.

The left front exhaust valve hydraulic lifter on my 302 cleveland has taken the bottom off it and i want to know where it could end up

First of all Ford never made a 302 cleveland, they made 351 cleveland . the metal from the lifter is all thru the engine ? ( bearings, oil pan, etc. )

I have an 84 mustang that came with a 4 cylinder. What would be required to go with either a 302 or a 351 V8? Will it take more than changing motor mounts?

Everything will need to change eas far as engine, transmission, and most likely rear end.A 302(5.0) swap would make more sense because they came in these cars and there will possible be some factory brackets and other things availiable. When you say 351 i am assuming you mean windser. This engine is in the same family as the 302 but thats about all they share. It has not been in a mustang since 72 or 73 and those were much different cars. If i wanted a 5.0 stang i would just buy me one. this will be a very expensive project and there will be many unforseen problems.

How to put a 81 351w in a 79 f-250 with a 460 with the motor mounts.will i have to mod. the brackets?

You will need brakets from a F-100/150 73-79 2wd 302 engine then the windsor will bolt up.

I have a 1965 food falcon with a mustang 302 (1978 ) v8. how do i know if it is a windsor or not?

Well there is a 302 cleveland, they are mainly an Australian engine. Identifying one is much like telling the difference between a 351 windsor and a 351 cleveland. Based on the fact that it's from Ford's 335 engine family. 8 cap screws to hold on the valve covers, the block is longer do to the timing chain housing being integrated. The fuel pump bolts are mounted vertically, and the exhaust bolt holes are diagonal. Also, a big difference between an american 302 and an aussie 302 cleveland, is the connecting rods for the cleveland are 6.000''. Where the american 302 connecting rod length is 5.090". Also, referring to a 302 as a windsor is incorrect, it's block families name is the 90 degree v8. The only engine in that family that is properly named the windsor, is the 351 windsor. The 90 degree family also includes the 302 boss. The boss has cleveland style heads, and the block has screw in freeze plugs.
