87 octane is what your car is built to run on. Anything higher is throwing your money away. A lot of people are under the impression that higher octane is 'good' for their car, when it does nothing but empty your wallet quicker. Of course, there are many cars requiring higher octane than your civic, they are engineered to run at peak performance and efficiency on higher octane (Acura vehicles for example). So enjoy your civic and and the $ u save on 87 octane!

Can I use 87 gas rather than premium I see the manual reads Premium

If it says that you can use it, go ahead. But if is recommends not to except in an emergency.
DON'T. Octane Ratings in gasoline refer to the temperature that the fuel will Ignite. The Lower the
Temperature that it Ignites, The lower the Octane Rating. The engine in your car is Very High Performance. It uses a High Compression Ratio so the Temperatures and Pressures inside the cylinders are higher before the spark plug ignites the fuel mixture. If you Octane is too low, The fuel will ignite before it is supposed to and you can damage or possibly destroy the engine. If you use the premium, i.e. High Octane Fuel, The timing of the ignition will be correct and the engine will purr like a kitten. Not really a kitten, maybe a tiger. You know what I mean. Most people who own that car, don't really know it's a screamer. I'm not kidding.

I know it costs more, but in the long run the engine will last longer.
Hope this is of some help,
Best Regards,
Mark

Fuel recommended for Lexus ES 350

92 or 93 octane. In my area of the country we have regular, super and premium thus the 92 or 93 octane fuel is called premium.  I would assume that this grade would be what you are calling super premium.  Basically it is going to take the best quality gas that they sell at the station.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for the opportunity to help you and thanks for an honest rating.  I hope you continue to use FixYa in the future for all of your automotive questions!

Lost of power

If you changed the belt and now its noisy and hard to start i would put money on it that you are probably off a tooth. this means the timing is not true....Also can cause alot of damage to the engine...I would check that out asap...

Fuel type

its not really as the factory computer has been tuned for a minimum octane rating of 95 if you use any less the engine will detonate and ping this will cause your knock sensors to set of which will place the computer into limp mode and you will have to take it to a dealership to get the codes cleared.
phew!
so thats why its best not to lol.
please leave feedback
cheers
