It sounds like a problem with your computer or injection system. the computer controls the amount of fuel put in the cylinders when you step on the gas. But it sounds like your truck's computer is having problems controlling this and when you accelerate hard or are towing and step on the gas, the computer just pumps diesel into the cylinders which causes the rough running(i assume misfiring and what not) and the loss of power. But when your not towing or accelerating hard, you are better controlling the amount of fuel going into the cylinders so there arent any problems. Go back to the dealer and tell them there is a problem with the injection system and it adds too much fuel when you try to get a lot of power out of it.

SOURCE: eng miss and trans problem

For the engine missfire you will need the coil some will show crack on top some internal, and some leak thru the boot, as for the transmission the tempsensor think its towing or a spped sensor which measure turbine, and compares to out put, wont shift your transmission is worn you can probably see it on the fluid conition being burnt(blackish)

2004 Ram 2500 Diesel 100k Lift pump not pumping out of banjo fitting at injection pump. Options before replacing LP. James

James,

Since you are pulling a vacuum to draw the fuel to the fuel pump a very small pin hole will cause the pump to not draw fuel. On my Cummins I connect a fuel line to the tank side of fuel pump and ran it into a pail with diesel fuel to verify an air leak in the line to the tank. The ECM electronics control module on mine a 1999 turns the pump on. You could use a jumper 12 volt to the pump verify it is getting 12 volts. You should be able to hear it running.
I replace the factory fuel pump on mine with a Fass pump and used a small relay to power the Fass pump without using the ECM and it works great.

Duel tanks fuel flow from front tank to rear tank

check installation of the tanks
if you have a balance tube between the tanks then the higher tank bottom will flow to the lower tank
if it is a diesel operation and you have put in the extra tank then where the injector return flows back to which tank will determine which tank fills up first. it will work like this fuel out to the injectors is used partially to run the engine but the most part is used to cool the injectors and so the hot fuel goes back to a tank
if that is not the same tank from which fuel is being drawn then what you have is a situation where the fuel pump is pumping from one tank and returning excess unused fuel to the other

I have a 97 Ford F 350 crew cab with duel tanks and a 7.5 liter it shuts off while driving most times it will start back up I took it to be diagnosed and it didn't give them a problem so they didn't know...

not all scanners work on ford protocols so there will be a fault code but the scanner in use will not read it
indicates a wiring problem to either the crank position sensor or cam position sensor or either or both sensors at fault
fuel delivery problems will generally be repeatable and can be traced but putting a pressure gauge in the fuel system will show if the pump is not maintaining pressure

My son ran my truck out of gas. Its a 1988 F250

first, is this a diesel? if it is there is a line or oring loose allowing it to **** air--diesels dont like leaks like that and there is a whole procedure for voiding the air from the lines on diesels. next could be the in tank pump and also does it have duel tanks? does the duel tank switch work? running out of fuel with in tank pumps can burn up the pump (the fuel itself provides lubrication and cooling for the pump, gas or diesel) and of course check the filter, running out and refilling could have disturbed trash in the tank

Front fuel tank will not work

You have duel tanks with a fuel pump in each tank. You also have a fuel pump on the frame rail after the "tank selector". This device only holds a fuel filter that protects the main fuel pump. When you select front or rear tank on the dash, you are selecting which in tank fuel pump will operate. You can check the in tank fuel pump by listening for it to "humm" when the key is turned on..The in tank pumps only feed the main pump and cannot run the engine on their own. Hope this helps

7.3 diesel won't start, but turns over no problem. No fuel

this should not have a emergency shut off they are on gas engines not diesel engines
if you have the electronic injectors it could be the shitch on the high pressuer oil pump is bad or other problems with high pressure oil system pump lack of oil in resovor ect  also check all fuses and relays under hood  these are not as user frendly as the older 7.3 s  were good luck
