First, it depends on which way you are going. Ar you wanting to put the 1997 engine in the 2000 vehicle? Or are you wanting to put the 2000 engine in the 1997 vehicle.
Then, it is possible that the engine block is the same, but most of the engine accessories will most likely be different and you should use only the engine block and the cylinder heads from the donor engine. The rest of the accessories, including intake and exhaust manifolds, oil pan, brackets, sensors, etc. should be transfered onto the donor engine from the original engine. Otherwise, you may be opening a can of worms that you are not going to be able (or willing) to deal with.
