If it starts up shortly and then dies it could be the fuel pump resistor that these cars have if its a supercharged car.this resistor is in the circuit to boost the pressure the pump puts out so the car will always have enough pressure when the supercharger is activated.its located on the passenger side between the inner and outer wheel well and you can get to it by going under the car and looking up and putting your hand up in the area you will feel it.its hard to get to,the wire connector for it is under the hood by the washer bottle area and is a 2 wire connector.have fun finding it.you can install it under the hood if you can find an area that air flow will help keep it cool.

1992 pontiac bonniville dies & wont start , sets a while then starts like normal. doesnt matter cold or hot

When it doesn't start check for fuel pressure, spark and injector pulse. If you got access to a scanner that could read live data check if you get an RPM reference. Check and report your findings.

1995 buick riviera 3.8 supercharged engine. Cold start issue. have to restart multiple times and it barely runs...spits back again and again until the engine warms up. once warm it runs correctly and...

Hello lysiphlebus2,

((My thoughts: cold START valve IAC at very bottom))

Plenty of places will do FREE diagnostic code reads.

I would rather suggest it be a muffler shop than
AUTOZONE... but either is better than guessing.

AUTOZONE will likely make you buy OXYGEN
sensors... (but that makes about as much sense as
buying a new THERMOMETER every-time you
have a FEVER.

What you are describing sounds (from an old
mechanic's perspective) like a collapsing
catalytic convertor or rotted muffler baffle
(a slightly better blockage will halt operation
completely)...

((again speculation... get your codes read))...

Do not buy OXYGEN SENSORS....

Know your prices before waltzing into any
exhaust shop.

I HAVE 1993 BONNIVILLE WITH A 3.8L.CAR RUNS ABOUT 20 MINUTES THEN SHUTS OFF.SOMETIMES IT STARTS RIGHT UP BUT THEN SOMETIMES IT WONT START UNLESS YOU LET IT SIT FOR AWHILE.

I have a 1995 SSEI,it had the same problems. It was the ignition control module. It's located under your coil packs with a large wiring harness connected to it.307c59b.jpg

My 1995 bmw wont start!

I don't think a 1995 3 series has a timing belt. 100% sure if its the inline 6 cylinder.bmw only used timing belts on two engines. (never replaced one) I would first start with a fuel pressure check to start your diagnosis. From there i'd check to see if you are getting spark and maybe even see if your plugs are fouled. If you have fuel pressure and spark, i'd suspect bad gas.(especially if the problem occured soon after filling up). It may be a good idea to do a compression check if you found no fault with the vehicle.
