1996 Toy Tocoka ignition/starter

My starter sometimes starts just fine and the next time will click 2-3 times then start. Occassionally, it will click 15-20 times and then start fine. Recently the engine rotates 1-2 times then sounds like electrical power is lost. The dash lights will dim and a clicking noise is heard every time the key is turned. The battery has been checked and terminals cleaned. I have had this same problem on my 1985 toyota truck on that truck I changed the starter two times and the ignition tumbler and still had the problem

That is a starter solenoid problem.

starter has its own solenoid. the big round thing besides the real motor.

it has contacts inside which could be worn out .

that is why sometimes it make contact and sometimes not.

2002 GMC Envoy, i put the key in ignition and vehicle will not start sometimes and other times is starts fine. we have checked the starter, battery and battery connections, all fine. Changed the starter...

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart. If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

Truck starts occassionally.

You need to replace the starter solenoid contacts, or the starter itself.

Note that the starter is UNDER the intake manifold. This is a VERY difficult job, and is not recommended to those who do not have sufficient automotive experience.

If you DO remove the intake, you MUST replace the intake manifold gaskets, or your engine will not run properly, due to air leaks at the intake mating surfaces.
