GM motors are numbered on the driver side as 1-3-5-7 and on the passenger side as 2-4-6-8. These numbered cylinder go from the front of the motor toward the back.

Yes. Find a Ford speciallist mechanic or, as I just did, look for and purchase a factory 1996 TC Wring Diagram shop manual. I found mine on Ebay, but other sites may carry one. Try googling '96 Lincoln Town Car Wiring Diagram Shop Manual'. The manual has all the info you will need.
Just follow the firing order starting with the white dot as number one.
