The best and easiest thing to do at this point is try taking it to and Advance or AutoZone and asking them to read your trouble codes in your computer.This may at least give you a starting point to figure out what may be wrong and then you can go from there and either take it to a garage and have it fixed or maybe buy the parts yourself and do it.Good luck.
Engine light is usually actuated by oxygen sensor, have it checked and replaced if necessary, if sensor is ok, then you might be running a bit too rich. might be time for a tune up depending on when you had the last one done, reset engine light with scanner.

The check engine light came on probably because it detected an error with your car. In this case, it sounds like the error is with your transmission. Most likely a bad solenoid. Bring the car to a place like Autozone where they will scan your car for free to retrieve the code(s) that will point to where the issue is.

The 1698 code means either that there is no digital data communication from the the transmission controller OR from the body controller that is being received at the powertrain control module. An analyzer that read "hex" codes would distinguish which, the former being a 60 the latter a 61 hex code.

Is your lense cracked where water can get into the housing? Are you absolutely certain that you are replacing it with the correct bulb? Are you using a good name brand bulb like Wagner or Sylvania? or some off-brand cheap bulb made in China?
