1990 Isuzu Trooper 2.6 I4

Hello! I think you've diagnosed your problem pretty well! It does indeed sound as if you have a thermostat that is sticking. As for the location - if you follow the upper radiator hose towards the motor, you will see where it connects to the thermostat housing. Remove the radiator hose clamp, and then the 2 bolts holding the housing in. Remove the old t-stat. Clean off the mounting surfaces of the t-stat housing and manifold and install new t-stat and gasket. Insert the 2 bolts and torque to 15 ft lbs. Re-attach the radiator hose - refill the coolant to proper levels, and you're all done.

Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa!

Trooper 2.6 isuzu engine,

According to almost every manufacturer, it's not recommended or even possible to clean the delicate wires. Of course, they're selling those sensors, so their motivation might be suspect. Try cleaning it first--what do you have to lose? I used to use aerosol carb cleaner, but CRC now makes MAF Sensor Cleaner it's new and less prone to dissolving other components in the MAF sensor. Do yourself a favor and remove the MAF sensor from the vehicle before attempting to clean it. Also, I'd make sure the air filter housing, air filter and all associated ducting are intact, clean inside and not leaking dirt. This will keep you from needing to clean or replace the MAF sensor anytime soon. You have to be gentle because the wires in the sensor are exrtremely fragile. If you poke it with the plastic spray guide you'll ruin it. Let it thoroughly dry before replacing it.

Is this what you need?
Mass Air Flow (MAF)/Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor

C

I hope help you with this. Good luck.

Trooper will not excelerate. it only kicks in

the car will not accelerate, check distributor unit, wires, cap and rotor making sure they have clean contact between the pole. test coil making sure you have strong 12V. Check air mass flow sensor, this unit also connected to ECU unit and also control the shifting along with transmission rotation sensor, both work in sync with one another. Check fuel pump for proper pressure my disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel filter, cover the line with a pieces of clothes, using your thumb, apply it on top of the fuel line and have a friend turn engine over, make sure you have the fuel line pointing downward away from your face. feel the pressure of the fuel pump does get weak over time and loose some pressure. if changing replacing fuel pump good idea to also replace fuel pressure regulator. Check fluid in tran mission making sure it has proper oil level. being 1990 im sure it has over 100k, I would have the tranny flush and filter change with new oil. Its good idea to have tranny flush every 75-100k especially SUV. tranny pressure sensor may need replacing, sometime it get clogs up with wast particles from gasket and worn filter. Battery light come on one awhile, have your alternator check, weak or faulty alternator will also cause battery light to come on.

Need to add tranny fluid to '99 Rodeo, but where??

CAUTION: DO NOT OVERFILL.
Overfilling will cause foaming, loss of fluid, abnormal shifting and possible damage to the transmission.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly.
2. Check fluid level with engine running at idle.
NOTE: Be sure that transmission fluid temperature is below 30degrees C (86degreesF).
3. Move the selector lever through all gear ranges.
4. Move the selector lever to “Park”.
5. Let engine idle for 3 minutes and open the overfill screw (1).
6. Add released transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening.
7. Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32C (90F) and 57C (135F) is reached, then close the overfill screw (1).
Torque: 38 Nm (3.9 kg·m/28 lb ft)
NOTE: To prevent fluid leaks, the overfill screw and oil drain screws gasket must be replaced each time these screws are removed.

CAUTION: Do not open overfill screw with engine stopped.
CAUTION: DO NOT CHECK FLUID LEVEL UNDER THESE CONDITIONS:
Immediately after driving at sustained highway speeds.
In heavy city traffic during hot weather.
If vehicle is towing a trailer.
If the vehicle has been operated under these conditions, shut the engine off and allow the vehicle to “cool” for thirty (30) minutes. After the cool down period, restart the vehicle and continue from step 2 above.

Oil where spark plugs go?

For the oil it seems like head gaskets need replacing. As far as the electrical issue, sound like you may have a damaged wire from the ignition to the starter, I would try to trace the current to all electrical components; battery, starter alternator and see if you can find the area of the bad wire.

Missing a tensioner for the AC drive belt? Just

Yes there is a tensioner. You will need the adjuster and the mount and the long bolt. If you goto a junk yard to get one I suggest you go to a local bearing shop and replace the bearing in the wheel.

"90" Trooper will not go in gear when eng running

You'll have to bleed your system. There should be a bleeder screw on your slave cyllinder.Stick a piece of vacuum hose on it, and have the other end of the hose in a bottle of brake fluid. Keep pumping your clutch until no more bubbles come out of the hose, and then, with the clutch held in, tighten your bleeder screw again, and you should be good.
