Thanks for choosing Fixya and welcome to the site. You need fuel, air, and fire to start your vehicle. Since it starts for a second, you still need to check the fuel pump and filter. Check any fuses/relays to do with the fuel pump. Make sure the timing belt/chain is not broke. It can be spark plugs/coils, wires, distributor, dist.cap, coil packs. You could have a bad cam sensor or crank sensor. It can all lead back to a bad computer. In all honesty, it could be anyone of these. Your best bet, if you have a check engine light on, is trying to get a code of your computer. By doing this, it saves valuable time and money. You basically need the trans rebuilt. The only way the speed sensor could affect any of the shifting problems is if it broke off into the trans. somehow. You could try checking the trans fluid first, or having it changed.

The reservoir has 3 chambers in it -- one for front brakes, one for rear brakes, and the firewall side is the clutch chamber. Often you can still see fluid in the tank and not have any in the clutch chamber.
