What kind of motor is in a 1986 nissan 300zx non
Hello adeg222: My name is Roger and I will help you. The motor should be a 3.0 SOHC V-6 engine. The repair manual does not refer to this engine as being a interference engine. How ever if the belt breaks and you were driving the car. The likely hood of engine damage is greatly multiplied. Also the time called for to replace the belt is 8.5 hours.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the quality of the answer. This way I know if it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
My 300zx won't even start anymore?
remome fuel filler cap and have assistant listen for fuel pump with key on , it will only run about 2 seconds until engine is running so may have to do key off/on test to hear it , if no noise , try smacking fuel tank with mallet , sometimes that will wake up fuel pump , it might be faulty
Head lights only work on high beam
Im gonig to start out with a silly question so forgive me, Did you check the fuses? (I just didnt want to assume)
It is common for these headlight switches to have problems when the contacts inside get dirty.
If it is anything like the pickups and pathfinders you can remove the plastic cover plate on the back of the switch and carfully clean the contacts with some fine sand paper. usually works for a couple of years..

1986 300zx fan belt replacement...can't get belts
You need the release tension on the driven accessories, alternator, power steering pump, smog pump MULTIPAL BELTS.
If it is a single SERPENTINE belt there will be an idler that is spring loaded and will release the tension on the belt.
ALWAYS NOTE HOW THE BELT(s) ARE ROUTED make a detailed drawing you will forget it happens to me all the time.
1988 nissan300 zx auto non turbo engine will not
You've got to check remove and clean your battery terminals and the connectors. Also check the main ground on the block from the battery negative terminal. Then check the tightness of the large red wire going to the starter from the positive battery terminal. And lastly, make sure the small push on terminal to the starter solenoid is tight. if not remove it and pinch it hard with your thumb and index finger. Push it back into place and see if it will start. If so while it is running check your charging systenm with a voltmeter,it should read between 13- 14.5 volts. If it does not start then jump the battery from another vehicle and then check the charging system. If your charging system is fine and the next morning you cannot get it to turn over you'll need a new battery.
I HAVE A 1986 300ZX NON TURBO. IT CRANKS BUT
First I would go ahead and change your fuel filter, I change mine every 50k miles. "Home remedy working with what you have" assuming the fuse and relay are good. Unplug the main wire from the main coil to keep the car from starting as we test the fuel pump and the pressure making sure is working properly. To check and see if you getting any fuel, One way is, under the hood locate the fuel filter, disconect the fuel line from your fuel filter, cover the end of the fuel line with a clothes over the hose and have a friend turn the ignition over couple of times and see if any fuel coming out of the line. Make sure you point the fuel line downward away from your face just in case, otherwise it will squirt and shoot fuel over you. Make sure you also have your finger over top of the hose so you can feel the pressure from the fuel pump. If it weak pressure replace the pump, keep in mine, its 1986 and that is an old fuel pump with high miles. Being 1986 Z car, I would say its the crank sensor is bad although it dont believe it has one but everything is built into the distibutor unit. If you getting good pressure than it could be your fuel regulator and no way of testing it, there are also cheap to replace or your fuel injectors is bad again all injectors cant go bad at the same time unless the car has been sitting in the storage for years. If one goes bad, its best to replace them all. I can see one or two injectors goes bad but your engine should still be running but run rough like missing firing. Every 3 to 4 month with my fill up I always use a can of fuel injectors cleaners add to my gas tank to keep problems free. I have 320k miles car and still have the original injectors although I filled and use 93 octane once a month just to keep everything running smooth. If you get a chance go to a junk yard a pull out couple of relays and see if that will do the trick, don't buy a new one, its stupidly expensive for a relay. If you doing your own repair I recommend you purchase Haynes auto repair book, great tools to have and instructions with pictures. keep me up to date and I will try to help as much as I can.... good luck.
