Hopefully our Computer Guru Larry Ng will be along soon. As long as it wasn't oven hot, there should not be that much wrong with it. I have a couple of suggestions. 1. Take the hard drive out and put it into a powered external hard drive enclose that is compatible with your hard drive. Easiest solution, and your old computer SERIOUSLY needs upgrading. Then your Hard Drive contents will be visible on the computer you connect the USB lead to as a separate volume. You will have C:\ with the operating system on, D:\ will be the Optical DVD Drive and E:\ will be the contents of the Compaq. https://www.newegg.ca/Hard-Drive-Enclosures/SubCategory/ID-92 2. XP is old and a Virus Magnet. You may be able to buy a Windows 7, possibly Win 8 upgrade CD, but usually you need the media disc for the OS already on the computer. Or you can buy a full version, which will allow you to upgrade anything. 3. One more thing you can try is tapping F8 as the computer is booting and see if you can see 'Start Computer with last known best Configuration. 4. Or you can take it to a local Independent computer shop and ask them to recover all your data from the hard drive to USB Memory Stick As I said, just suggestion until Larry gets here. I am a minor Expert compared to him.

Windows 8.1 is a dead OS as is Vista. Use your OS disk and see if you can boot from that.

why not post a photo of it. or read to us the service tag or post photo of tag or tell what Presario it is. number. 2000 to 2013 is the range I guess, and what OS is there now or what OS do you want to run there. ? first one ever is 1993. super rare now, even missing on ebay now this old. but no clues. told. comes in desk and laptops both. found in garage sale for $1 >? found dead?

Start your web browser, find options, open options. Find and open search. On this page you will see "Use the address bar for search and navigation" and "Add search bar in toolbar" which puts a separate window next to the address bar with search written in it.. Choose which one you want to use Go down to one click search engines. You will see a number of search engines in a box usually ticked. I use a search engine called Duckduckgo because it does not keep any data on me... under the search engines box there is a line in blue "Find more search engines". Click on the blue line and you will see a list of different search engines, click on one and a new page will open up and you follow instructions to install the search engine. There are a number of reasons why a computer will bluescreen. You'll likely need to take the unit in to a qualified technician to get it fixed.

57-100 57-200, 57-300 or 400? there are 4 versions. to what device? unstated and matters big time. BT head phones? first is , it must have Bluetooth, most didn't then. it was an option, then. (in fact many options) most times its part of the wifi card inside.(and was) or it did work before today (I lost)? means that? then the HP Compaq driver is missing for it. HP has it , if you download it. the #1 cause of Bluetooth software driver failure is upgrading the unstated OS and there is no driver for that OS.
