a 2002 PC made new, 20 years old, a record here for old and useless really it will grow a virus soon, (I warned you) last person on XP on earth are you, ?? why? most 2002 PC can not boot all things we see now today. usb what, not told. USB m2. drive USB DVD drive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2002, boot choices, in the manual. hdd cd floppy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- no usb listed in the manual go bios PAGE 1 setup find all entry points showing USB the all for boot see no USB devices allowed boot in 2002 see boot order, in bios if the device fails to show up there it is dead. what did you put on the USB drive, Linux installer? not told. the manual tells to set boot order first, to 1st thing needed to boot, if USB fails to show up there , it does not support it. some relic BIOS ive seen have line there called allow USB to boot. no kidding look for that too. answering for usb boot device not told tested and working on modern PC.

Hopefully it will still work with a new battery and power supply to charge it. They were quite reasonable back in 2008. Win7 software (no longer supported) and fairly fast.

Old Desktop, now 16 years old. well it is old and needs service as all do that old as in HARDware first. the PC is 2006 old, a super relic now. That sounds like your hard drive may be dead...

If you are more than just a beginner you can attach that drive to your PC and run a drive copy program that will create an exact image of your current drive. Once that is created then you can add the new drive to the computer make sure your system recognizes it and can boot from it. I have done this many times.

Lights can come on but your CPU is not booting the Operating System. Can be the Hard drive or windows os.

On that model,there are a few things that can cause your problem.None are simple and the most common is the GPU (video chip) has lost contact due to over heating. The cost of repairing it, if you could find someone willing ,Would be way more than one that old is worth.

You want HP (compaq) full SET of drivers or your unstated OS. so we must guess what OS this runs or goals?????? THE CMOS BATTERY IS DEAD AND HE HDD IS NO GOOD NOW. BUT MUST BE REPLACED FIRST. HP DOES NOT SUPPORT VISTA AT ALL OR THIS PC NOW. HP OWNS COMPAQ FOR 20 YEARS. HP ENDED Support about 12 years ago, RIP, relic PC but linux can be put on it, and logs of work getting sound up and Ethernet.

let me guess lost the PC it came with>????? other shoe drops.? let me guess need use those custom keys and don't know how. well you need that PC it was sold with. lost? this, even HP and Google can't find it, why mess with PCs this old? with PS2 cable end, why use that? and it will not work on non Compaq PC as PS2 is unique to each maker. no PC even told just found in a garage sale, for 10cents.

Xp had a lot of issues with shutdown early on, but they should have been mostly resolved. 1. Make sure windows is up to date, IE all updates. 2. Make sure all drivers are up to date. 3. Run some anti virus/adware/spyware programs, could be something preventing your computer from shutting down. 4. You aren't unplugging and USB/firewire devices without stopping it first are you?
