1985 DT75 torque settings

If your 115 Yamaha SHO VMAX outboard engine is experiencing RPM fluctuations at speeds over 3500 RPM, it may be due to a few different factors. Here are some things to check:

Look below lower mountings you will see the shift rod with along nut and a lock nut,undo long nut,do this with motor in reverse gear,some 40s have a stainless plate cover which you have to remove first

Has this engine been sitting for a while?? Sounds like the carbs need cleaning and setting... a job for a professional!! A professional motorcycle mechanic can do this also!!

You might have a magnet issue(under the flywheel).. it happened to me.. one was loose..

Assume you are checking the max RPM when not operating the boat? If so, might have a second tach to check the gauge is okay. Naturally, if you checked RPMs underway it would probably be a dented prop. Pete

first bit of advice do not use e-mix fuels in outboard engines WHY because ethanol separates from the fuel if not used continuously so letting it stand between outings is not good secondly ethanol is hygroscopic which means that it absorbs moisture from the air that is going in via the tank vent and that results in corroded aluminium parts and rusted fuel tanks and outboards operate in a very moisture laden environment now for the problem being a late model engine , it should be a 4 stroke and like any 4 stroke engine , check the timing belt/chain, crank/cam position sensors , ignition module it is important to check all harness connections as salt water rapidly causes corrosion in electrical connections and components have the service agent do a scan for fault codes remember this Suzuki out board 2 stroke motors were used in the early suzuki 4x4 cars and modern 4 stroke engines are simply car engines on end

very basic carbs ! clean all jets and emulsion tube then check the float needle is clean and the tip isnt grooved , blow threw all ports etc and then refit and set the mix screw 1.5 turns out for starters then run up in a tub of water and fine tune till its happy to idle and rev up ! make of engine ??

Need to know more... is it no spark? or is it no fire? -- first check spark with a spark checker or by pulling spark plug out and grounding the plug then cranking to see if it sparks... if it sparks check compression -- if you have spark and compression its most likely fuel and you need to do lower carburetor

Lean fuel mixture

Turn the carburetor upside down. The float should be level with the bottom of the carburetor.

Check your battery wires. If the battery disconnects even for one second or the grounds are bad then the stator has no where to put the charge and it will fry.
