Is there any way that the docking station has something in it that might cause a poor contact between it and the device? Especially if there are children in the house!

is there a battery that can be removed? that way you could do a "hard restart"

unfortunately you destroyed the original when you submerged it in water AS it appears that each unit has it's own special registration code you will have to get a code for the new unit ( should have come with the new unit ) now as the dead unit was in the water , there is every possibility that any information and data on the unit would be lost as well you don't have a good one doing until you buy the licence for it

It is possible you could have burnt out the works if the charger you used is more power full than the proper one.

Sounds like the hdd has dislodged due to the knock...open it up pull off the hard drive...reconnect it..or reseat the connection..and try again...if that doesn't work...you could try removing the drive to run a chkdsk facility using Linux on a pc...or source another hdd off eBay with the correct file system and drivers...for that model.
