Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to ask a Proper Question.

Before You Ask:
We like answering people who have demonstrated they can learn from the answers.Post your answer, sit back, Relax and give some thought before approaching experts.Prepare your questions, Think it through.
Write in Clear Grammar, Correctly-spelled language:
We've found by experience that people who are careless and sloppy writers are usually careless and sloppy at thinking and coding.Expressing your answer clearly and well is very important. If you can't be bothered to do that we can't be bothered to pay attention. It doesn't have to be stiff or normal in-fact. But it has to be precise. There has to be some indication that you're thinking and paying attention too.Spell, Punctuate and capitalize correctly. Don't TYPE IN ALL CAPS. This is considered as shouting or considered rude. Try to use native language in asking questions. Busy experts tend to simply flush questions in language they don't understand. Do not use instant messaging short-cuts. Don't write 'YOU' as 'U'.English is the working language on the internet. By writing in English you minimize your chances that your question will be discarded unread.
Use meaningful and Specific subject headers:
The subject header is your golden opportunity to attract qualified expert's attention in around 50 characters or fewer. Don't waste it on babble like "PLEASE HELP ME". Messages with subject like this get discarded by reflex.
Stupid:
Help! Video doesn't run properly on my laptop.
Good:
X. org 6.8.1 misshapen mouse cursor Fooware MV1005 vid. chip-set
Smarter:
X.org 6.8.1 mouse cursor on Fooware MV1005 vid. chipset - is misshapen.

Thankyou :)

If they ask for help then we'll try to give it. If they ask for an answer then that's what we try to give. If they ask how to do something then that's what we try to give. We're not here to do their homework for them.

The best way for you to try to change this site to what you want to see is for you to start answering questions.

Hey, you seem very knowledgeable.

Thank you for your request. It is funny you should ask that. I stumbled on to Fixya about a month ago while looking for an answer for a problem and while looking at someone's question I thought "Heck! I know what's wrong with this person's problem" and so on an impulse, I signed up and answered his question (right at this point, I can't remember if I helped that first person or not! must be getting old!). If you are really looking to make money off the site, sign on alot and always list yourself as avaible and answer the questions that will make you money, but be aware that those questions get droves of answers so you have to be quick on the draw. I must admit I must be touched in the head because I like answering questions that relate to the computer field because I work in it for 8+ hours a day. I figure if you can answer a question without being at or around the equipment it will help your mental process when you do have that happen at work. Or lets put it this way, it helps me in my daily work and helps keep it fresh in my mind, your milage may vary. I also try and answer questions that I know I can explain and I try to remember what it was like to know nothing about the questions I'm answering and fashion my answer to help the people who truly don't know, care or understand why the answer works but to give them the information they need to either fix their problem or make an informed decision about how to proceed to fix their problem, The site is pretty straight forward for the most part and isn't hard to learn but remember that is coming from a person who has had a computer since 1984 and hasn't been without a computer since I purchased my first computer. I hope that answers your questions and If I can help again, please ask. It might take me a day or two to answer (sometimes life gets a bit crazy!) but I will answer when I get the chance to.

Once again, thank you for asking, I hope that helps!
