Hello
You didnt give much information, so please start with cleaning all the mirrors of the machine.
If after that you still have the same problem replace the developer material.

I have a Minolta cs pro 2080 copier, shading on copies

3 possible causes:
1) The optics are dirty thus making your copy darker. The test for this is to manually lighten the copy using the exposure control on the panel of your copier. Lighten the copy several positions and see if the copy gets better. If it does then the optics need to be cleaned.
2) The copier is overtoned. This means that the toner to developer concentration is to high. This will require a trained technician to lower the toner ratio and then recalibrate the toner/developer ration using the F8 mode.
3) If the shading gets much worse as you run say 10 copies in a row then the drum cleaning blade would be the cause. So run 10 copies of something and compare the first copy out with the tenth copy out. Do you see a dramatic difference in the amount of background or "shading"?
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Copies are coming out in various shades of black - like its smeared...

Most common cause is a dirty corona wire and or drum. If after cleaning the corona wire and drum the copies are still mostly black and smeared, the drum may be broken. Best of luck.

Copying spreadsheets

If the lines look like little steps, maybe broken is segments off by about the thickness of a pencil line, try this. Most likely it's the scanner. You can try calabrating it by doing the following. press in order. Menu #1934. You will see a T pop up to the right side of "Ready to Copy". Then press machine status, then scroll until you find maintenance. May be under system settings. When you find maintenance, press enter, then scroll to Shading Adjustment. Or depending on software version, Adjust shading. Place 5 sheets of paper on the glass,, press enter, then when is says "Adjust Shading?" press enter again. Let it print out the sheet. Then try a copy. If that doesn't help, the scanner itself will probably need replacing.
The scanner is the issue. The segments of what is called the CCD are not working properly.
Once you adjust shading, if that doesn't work, the scanner will need to be replaced.

400S Black lines at top of copy

Sounds like the drum is worn out. Usually do 60-70K before replacement. Shading more noticeable at top of copy. Could also before worn upper fuser roller.

Canon NP7161copier ( Indicates 8z and stops copying)

Dark shades on both side of the paper? Drum cleaning blade or fuser assembly. Check the upper fuser roller and the drum for build up.
