Dishwasher is shutting off.
I select the wash and drying cycles, press the start button, and close the door. Washer starts momentarily (blue light a floor lights up) and within 30 seconds the machine stops running. The wash and drying panel on the inside door begins to flash, as if I hadn't made a selection.
The dishwasher was installed March of 2010.
Thanks,
Maureen Johnson

Re: Dishwasher is shutting off. I select the wash and
Hello Maureen Johnson, welcome to FixYa.
I'll start by acknowledging your post indicates the problem is with your dishwasher not starting/functioning, however if you could post the complete model & serial number I would be better equipped to help you further. If you could also verify it is a Viking (built by Asko) as the header suggests.
I'll look forward to your reply and try and help you move forward from there.
Thank you for replying and confirming the unit's identifications. It is indeed built be Asko, though that isn't really relevant, just an observation.
Can you help clarify for me the lights which are flashing on the panel, is it all of the lights, or specific lights ? i.e. "Pots & Pans" and "Normal". Thank you once again.

Thank you. Those lights indicate an issue with the motor control, as you may or may not know.
My next question is whether you have tried the control "reset" procedure yet ? If not, try to reset the control. To do so is as follows...Press and hold the "Start" button for 4 seconds. Following this "reset" if the error returns or continues you may need to call in an authorized Viking or Asko service provider since the control on these have a five year "parts only" warranty, which means unfortunately the labour is not covered...but that's getting ahead of ourselves.
Try the reset and see what happens, hopefully that will remedy the error which can be initiated by power surges or cycle interuptions but is fine after a reset.

Macmarkus :)

Unfortunately if the reset does not yield any results a repair technician will most likely be required since it points to a control problem.
Let me know if there is anything further I can do to help. At this point though it appears limited to what can be done from afar...we've exhausted the "quick fix" attempts.
I will be interested in finding out what the resolve is when it gets done if you can post back I would most certainly appreciate it. Good luck going forward.

With the dishwasher door closed and the unit in standby mode or with no cycle selected and all lights off, press - heated-dry, normal, heated-dry, normal buttons in that sequence. Then press cancel..... wait until 2 minute cycle is done. Open and close the door and make sure it is closed. Then run another cycle.
If the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive).
To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...
high temp wash
heated dry
high temp wash
heated dry
all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.
If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).
I Hope this works for you.
Try a reset. I have a kitchenaid. The reset is to press the sani-rinse, hea-dry, sani-rinse, heat -dry, then close the door. You can hear action the dishwasher doing something. Takes about 2-3 minutes, then stops. At this point I was able to select a wash cycle and start, close the door, and it started. Good luck
Open the dishwasher door if the desired cycle does not perform as selected on the control panel. Press the main power switch "Off" and then "On" again. Select a cycle, press the appropriate button, press "Start" and close the door. Make sure the door is closed completely.
Check the circuit breaker and water supply if the dishwasher does not start after selecting the appropriate cycle on the control panel and shutting the door.
Turn "Off" the dishwasher and disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply if an error code between "E01" and "E30" appears on the digital display. Reconnect and turn the dishwasher "On." This should reset the control panel.
Terminate a program on the control panel by holding the "A" button and pressing "Start" at the same time. The display will read "0:01". Close the door to start the program sequence. The display will read "0:00" when finished.
try this, I was researching and found that this solution worked. While all the lights are blinking, close the dishwasher door and let the machine run through the cycles. This actually happens pretty fast. Then it will stop and quiet down and all the blinking lights will shut off. Then just press the buttons you want and hit start and the machine will start. The time it takes for the blinking light to shut off is about 1 to 2 minutes. It worked for me.
That will start a short diagnostic cycle (last about 2 minutes) that will clear the blinking light and allow you to use the dishwasher. If the light comes back, your drying cycle has failed and you will need service.
I have this same kitchenaid model. It would not start after selecting the wash cycle and pressing start. The light would blink as if the door was open. I did the reset by pushing the sani-rinse, heat dry, sani-rinse, heat-dry and closing the door. You can hear something going on inside. After that stopped (about 3 minutes). I was able to select the wash cycle, press the start, close the door, and it started. Good luck!
I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.
today January 9, 2009...blinking clean light, kenmore dishwasher would not run,,,the solution on Fixya ..."keep hitting normal -heated wash-normal -heated wash buttons over and over...unlocked the blinking green light problem. Dishwasher is running as I type this....will post again when I see the results of another washing tomorrow. H.T. Las Vegas Nv
