Good Afternoon, Aceswaim:

Installing Memory is a simple upgrade to any computer. First, make certain that you have the proper RAM. For this model, a 172 pin DDR should fit in nicely.

Back up your data, exit all programs, unplug everything going to the CPU. Looking at the back of the machine, notice which side all of the ports are on. Undo the screws on the opposite side on the back of the machine, then gently pull/slide the panel off. Yes, there will be dust in there. Blow it out with canned air or a vacuum with electronics attachments. You will see 4 memory slots. Usually, computers ship with 2 slots filled. It is far better to have 2 516 memory chips than, say, two 256 and one 516.

Lift out the old, press in the new, gently but firmly, until it seats. Put the panel back on, and replace the screws. Reattach the wiring, saving the power cord for last.

You should see a major difference in performance.

Good Luck with your internet experience!

Chr

I upgraded my gategay gt-5428 computer memory 1 gb to 2 gb but still runs with i gb, what i did wrong?

Hello Erik,

Are you absolutely certain that the new module is compatible with your system? Go into the BIOS and see if it is recognized there.

Crucial shows that your computer takes DDR2 memory with support for DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400 speeds.

Make sure it is not ECC memory. ECC is not compatible.

If you are sure of the compatibility, I would try to install the old one by itself first and make sure the system boots. Then I would remove the old one and install the new one by itself. Try booting. If it doesn't work, you may have gotten a bad module. (It happens.)

Just FYI, here is the crucial link for your computer:

Thanks for using Fixya.

Windows xp sp3 maximum amount of memory

HI,
Of course it can be done, your computer can take up to 2BG of ram (memory) and the slots are located inside the computer tower like this >>>>>

Your motherboard will have 2 slots like in the picture and will take 2 x 1BG (1GB in each slot), just make sure you buy the correct speed and type memory so it's a good idea to take your memory with you when you buy is so there is no mistakes.

Good luck

1gb shows 512mb only

Your mobo is quite old and its chipset can only support a maximum of 512MB PER SIDE (technically called a bank) of a memory module. I would guess that your 1gb memory module has 8 chips that are all located on one side of the module, putting all of the 1 GB on one bank. Thus, only 512MB of your 1 gb RAM is detected and usable by your motherboard (the remaining 32 mb is most likely being used by your onboard video). You'll need to find a double sided 1 gb memory module (usually 8 chips on each side).

I have dell pentium 3.ram is 256 and i want to install 1 gb ram does it work in my cpu.

cpu does not choose the RAM , its the motherboard that you should look into.  if you can give us the exact model of your dell pc, or better yet the Exact model of your motherboard, we can easily tell you if its supported... usually Pentium 3 computers use SDRAM modules

I want to add additional RAM to my Veriton 1000 PC where can I find a HowTo or Installation Guide ?

Here is the memory information on your system:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Veriton%201000

A total of 2 slots each capable of a 1 GB RAM module

Here is the user guide for the system:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/VT1000_UG_ENG.pdf

Adding RAM is simple. Unplug all cables from the tower, then press and hold the power button on the front of the tower to release any stored power.

It appears that 1 screw holds the side panel on (it is on the back) and then removed the side panel. This should give you access to the RAM slots on the motherboard.
