Unplug the laptop and remove the battery. Hold the power button down for 15 seconds and then replace the batter and the power supply and you should be ok.

I need a manual and drivers (I think) and some basic information for a Maxtor One Touch 320 GB [email protected]

there is no manual for this drive and no drivers are required. if not recognized by your o/s check to see if you have the correct adaptor with a green light on the bottom of it. i have 2 of these drives and last week one couldn`t be found, i tried switching usb ports, then tied it on my laptop under vista which used to work, then did a system recovery in cas of corrupted usb drivers or registry. the drive still wouldn`t appear. when i plugged it in i would hear a beep, but somtimes the computer would find it and show it in the devices list, but it showed as a usb mass storage device, but no hdd.
i assumed both adapters for the 2 drives from maxto would be the same, however the drive that works is 12 volts 3 amp. the drive the can`t be recognized is 12 volts 2.5 amps. the green light is on solid and the front drive lights blinking, but i figured nothing to lose so i swapped out the adapters, and voila! my dead drive works like a charm with th 12 volt 3 amp adapter. with the old adapter 12 volts 2.5 amps it sounded licke a clock ticking. now its super quiet. to be sure of any drive damage i moved all the filef to my main drive and formatted it with " full" format. now i have to swap the adapter back to the other drive and pull of the data and reformat it. and buy a new adapter for the other drive @12 volts 3 amps. hope this helps not too confusing.

I've plugged it into the power socket, and put in the usb, yet no light turns on, indicating that it has not been recognized by the computer. what do i do?

When the drive's dc adapter is plugged in, are you able to feed the hard drive start-up and begin to spin? Because if not, you either have a faulty dc adapter (unlikely,) or the power inverter board on the external hard drive case has failed. If there proves to be no power being delivered to the drive, even after trying a different adapter, then I would believe that the issue is in the case. Most likely, none of your information is lost, as inside the casing is a standard sata hard drive, that, with the proper tools can be removed and connected to a computer.

Let me know what you find and I'll be able to help you out better.

Cannot start hard disk not found

That almost certainly means your hard drive has crashed.

You can swap it out with any 500gb and below SATA laptop drive. Right now Best Buy has a 250gb drive for only $50, or you can get a smaller drive from NewEgg.com for next to nothing.

Just swap the drives, turn on your PS3 and follow the steps on the TV and you're back in business.

Hope this info helps!

My Compaq Presario F732NR Laptop w/Vista won't Boot.

You have done an excellent job of diagnosing a MotherBoard fault. This is undoubtably the problem. Have you removed all/any cards attached too, like say the WiFi?

I have a dell inspiron 1100 approx 7 yrs old. Try to start up, no display. LCD for power and battery (ac power) light up, no hard drive light. Reseated everything, still nothing. Also shuts itself down...

Hi,

Since there is no hard drive light, you could try unplugging it first, and try to boot and see if there would be any display on the LCD. If yes, you already isolated the problem that it is the Hard drive causing the " no display".

Try to do also the following: (draining flea power)

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

Hope to hear from you soon.

Does the hard drive interchange with other Averatecs?

Swapping hard drives only works if the hard drive is swapped into an identical computer with the same device configurations, CPU and RAM etc.
The best way to copy or recover data from a working hard drive is to insert the hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. You should see this drive as an external hard drive and you can then copy or backup the data onto the computers hard drive or USB memory stick etc.
