I get "Print head not installed on my canon i900d

I tried your solution twice, and it did not work.

  • eschaefer536 Jun 08, 2011

The solution was potentially helpful, but it did not fix the problem. Even though the printhead looks OK, I guess it broke somehow. The second time I wiped a little ink off the printhead.

Also, I have always used Canon ink cartridges.

Reseat the print head i900D and reset the printer.Turn it off ,wait 10 sec then turn it on.

Unfortunately, if you are using genuine Canon cartridges and you still get the same issue, then the printhead is defective. You need a new print head.

    How to replace printhead.

    Instructions
    >Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it on. Allow the printer to finish its start-up processes before continuing.
    >Unfold the printer's output tray completely. Lift up the printer's cover and wait for the cartridge assembly to move to the center of the printer.
    >Open the inner cover to reveal the printer's ink tanks. Remove each ink tank by pinching the tab at the front of the ink tank as you lift it out of its slot.
    >Pull up on the gray lever until it cannot move back any more. Grab the black plastic print head assembly and lift it straight up and out of the printer.
    >Remove the new print head from its packaging. Place it in the empty slot. Lower the gray plastic lever until you hear a click.
    >Replace each ink tank, making sure you hear a click from the front tab. Close the inner and top covers on the printer.

Color not printing correctly on canon i900d

Take the cartridges and print head out. Pour about a centimeter of boiling water into a saucer or shallow bowl and set the print head in it for about 30 seconds. Place it on a folded up paper kitchen towel for a minute to dry and replace print head and cartridges in printer. Run two normal cleaning cycles and a nozzle check. If the test print is still poor or has not improved at all, the print head is probably dying and it is time to find a new machine. If the print has improved but not perfect, just repeat the process a couple of times.

Printer

Maybe you mistyped? Is it 'head or 'header'. I believe it is head you want to say. In that case your printer requires a new print-head to be installed.
Your printer has separate ink tanks and heads for printing. The head has a limited life although it works for along time.
The printer should indicated which color head needs to be installed. Try cleaning the head with the printer software first.
You can purchase the head of that color (or colors if more than one) and follow the install procedure in the printer manual.
If you also want head installation instructions, please take some time to post it as a separate question. I will try to give complete instructions.

Hard drive failure required rebuild of XP Home on Dell computer. XP Home updated to SP3. Canon Multiplass F80 printer will not now work. I downloaded latest XP drivers from Canon web site, but installation...

I found that some Windows Plug and Play services were note running and were set to start 'manually'. I started those services which seemed related to Plug and Play, and the installation went without further errors.

Printer will not use the magenta color

I had the same problem. It is most likely that your print head nozzles are clogged. Your choices are to attempt to manually clean them, or order a new print head from Canon.

Attempt the manual cleaning at your own risk, this doesn't always work. When it does not work, it means your print head is damaged.

To maually clean the print head. Printer cover up (so you can get to the cartridges and print head). Turn the Printer Off. Remove all the cartridges (I put each cartridge in a separate zip lock bag). Then flip up the lever and remove the print head.
Now heat (don't boil) distilled water (Iused a good sized cook pan and a plastic measuring cup to pour the water). Find a container you can soak the print head in (I used a deep alluminum baking pan). Pour the hot (not boiling) distilled water over the print head molding where the cartridges seat down (hold the printhead over your diposable alluminum pan). Then dunk the molded print head part into the pan numerous times. When the water gets dark change it (be carefuill not to stain the sink). Then slowly pour the hot distilled over the print head (opposite side from where the cartidges seat in). Eventually no ink will be in the water. Set the print head on a dry paper towel, and let it dry for 24 hours or longer. Reinstall the print head, then the catridges. If it worked, your true colors will return. It make take up to 15-20 photos to get all the ink catridges flowing-be patient. You can also just wait 24 hours after re-installing the cartridges, and hopefully it will take less photos to see the correct color match.

Never keep printing when a cartridge is low or out.
Print a few prints every week. Not printing for weeks causes the printheead and the ink flow to clog!

Good luck. I just recovered my S820 and my i900D using the above cleaning method. Like everything else, your mileage may vary! It cost me $1.29 for distilled water and about an hours worth of time!
