If your graphics card works on another pc but not on yours then you should try another graphics card on your pc. If it also doesn't work it means it's a problem with your motherboard.

Hi, Is Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card capable for my Compaq HP Presario SR2020NX? -thanks a lot.

You mean will the Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 with 1GB of graphics memory, work in a Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC?

Yes.

The Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC has a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757470&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=3245048

{Motherboard illustration and photo are towards the bottom of the page}

Look at the specifications.
Scroll down to the heading - Expansion slots.

Three PCI. (PCI expansion slots)

One PCI Express x16 graphics.

NOTE*
Looking at the motherboard illustration, it is Wrong.
Shows - PCIEX1 (PCI E X1)
According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.

The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Concerned that the Asus graphics card uses DDR3 graphics ram memory, and the Presario SR2020NX uses DDR2 Sdram ram memory?

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

I want to upgrade my computer specs... hope you can help me.. CPU: intel core2 duo E4600 2.4Ghz/800Mhz/2mb L2 cache/65MOnm MOBO: elite 945GCT -M2/1333 (v1.0), 1945GC/C2D/1333MHZ/DDR2 667/PCI-E memory:...

If you are a "gamer" and you have 1GB of RAM, and you have Windows XP, you probably need more RAM.
If you are a "gamer" and you have 1GB of RAM, and you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, you DEFINITELY need more RAM.

Some motherboards support "dual-channel" mode, when you have 2 or 4 _IDENTICAL_ sticks of RAM. What happens is that each byte written to the RAM is "split" into 2 halves; one half is written to the 'A' stick of RAM, while, simultaneously, the other half is written to the 'B' stick of RAM. Obviously, this takes 4 "cycles" of the RAM, rather than taking 8 "cycles", if there was only one stick of RAM. So, your RAM seems to run at "double-speed".

So, when you buy more RAM, either try very hard to "match" your current 1GB stick of RAM, or purchase a "2GB dual-channel kit", or two "2GB dual-channel kits", to upgrade to 2GB (or 4GB) of RAM.

I am trying to buy a video card for my D101GGC Motherboard. I know my motherboard has a PCI Express x16 1.0 slot so I will get a PCI Express video card. But can I get a PCI Express x16 2.0 card and will it...

Hi,

First, your RAM is already maxxed out and it is only DDR. See:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=D101GGC

Secondly, PCI-E 2.0 is backward compatible with 1.0 slots.

The RAM on the graphics card doesn't matter as long as the card is compatible. As far as how much...if you can afford 1GB, great!

ATI or nVidia? That's personal preference. I have had both and was happy with both. Other manufacturers use ATI and nVidia chips and market them under their own name. Galaxy, XFX, EVGA, and others. Here are some mid-range boards from Tiger Direct:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Lprice=100&Hprice=199.99&Nav=|c:3669|&Sort=0&Recs=10

You don't say how fast your processor is. You may be better off going for a new board or computer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Graphics card problem

Are you sure your system meets the minimum requirements? Make sure you are not having a resource conflict with your graphics card.
Is your card in a standard pci slot if so, try using a different slot if you have one. Maybe the pci slot is bad.

More ram and vdeo card

it sounds as if your MoBo is seeing the video adapter as a source of ram. if that is the case, then installing memory in units of 1Gb will cause a stick to not be seen, therefore utilized. you may want to refer to you manual for memory limits and poosible comparibility issues. they are usually quite in depth. also, make sure that they are all the same make model and speed. these issues have wreaked havoc on the prettiest of pc's.
