    If my computer recognizes 1gb of the 2gb memory in the slot, could this harm the computer if it recognizes the memory and is using it?

You're on the right track--it doesn't need to be custom-manufactured for Sony notebooks--just needs to be an internal mobile IDE-PATA hard drive. Still, I would recommend at least looking for something name brand with a decent warranty. Amazon and Newegg.com both have the Western Digital WD2500BEVE (250GB) for $79.99. That's a decent price (not mind-boggling), but more importantly it's a solid size/price reference point--e.g., if you find a 500GB name-brand hard drive for the same price, pull the trigger immediately.

    Thnx! This makes this more clear. Ok if I put 2 RAM of memory in the Sony Vaio pcg- frv25, and Sony suggest two 512 GH, will it still be as effective? Will the unused memory just sit there and not affect performance at all?

    1 GB of RAM (2 x 512 MB) is the maximum RAM the Sony VAIO PCG-FRV25 was designed to utilize. I had to flash the BIOS on my Vostro 1000 (and run 64-bit Windows) to get it to recognize 4 GB of RAM. You might have worse problems than an underutilized expense--it's possible the system won't recognize a 1 GB SO-DIMM in a 512 MB slot, despite the correct form factor (200 pin DDR333 SO-DIMM).

Yes every piece from Sony laptops has built in WiFi for internet access. To use it look for a button with WiFi on your pc. If not found read manual.

I have a vaio model #PCG-7L1L. My battery no longer works and the input for the plug doesn't work. How can i get my material off the hard drive? is there a place in Springfield, VA that can copy the hard...

You can do it yourself. You just need to remove the hard drive from the laptop and place the drive into an enclosure. If you take it to Best Buy or any place just pull over one of the geeks and tell him you need to know if you need a SATA enclosure or an IDE for your drive.

Then just hook it up to another computer via usb and pull your files off ;)

Sony vaio 640 hard drive

You can use any brand you like, as long as it matches the type of plug setup as the original hard drive i.e. PATA (IDE), or SATA (Serial ATA)

Sony Vaio PCG-FRV25 Cooling Fan Issue?

I was going to suggest overheating before I read your own diagnosis; Yes, sound like the fan, but you can check by opening up and watching it. Or install temperature monitoring software such as Speefan;
If it is the fan it may well be that there is only one possible replacement - officially. But it is usually possible to cannibalize something cheaper to suit your purpose!

Hard drive

You should have no problems with any drive, just make sure you buy an IDE drive not a SATA drive.
