Does it keep flickering? If so, there is a small circuit board in the top below the screen that can go bad, resulting in your screen eventually going dark---I had to use a flashlight to see anything. I would have it checked by a service tech soon.

Flickering

Hello,

If the screen of your monitor is flickering, this is indicating that your picture board is about to go bad or already bad, but i would suggest you replace the cable that connect to the monitor before concluding on this, if after replacing the cable, problem still persist, you will need to replace the picture board on the monitor to solve the problem.

Take care.

My compaq presario v3000 switches on but the screen does not come up only the fan works

Can you let me know if the screen atleast flicks, or the HDD led flicker, If you dont see both, it would be necessary to take the system for a repair. This looks like a critical issue. Else if the HDD is working and the screen is flickering too, then its the monitor which has a complaint or watch for the Bios check if its happening. To confirm the monitor problem or anything related to the VGA chip, you can always plug on to an external display device using the port provided on your system and check if you get any thing on the screen. Good Luck.

Black screen on booting my Compaq 610 notebook

If it seems like you're accessing the hard drive (drive light comes on, flickers intermittently, then goes off, it's a good chance your screen is bad.

First thing to do is plug in an external monitor and start up the laptop. If it comes up with windows, you know it's the screen.

To find out if it's the backlight, or the lcd, toggle the monitor function and shine a flashlight on a slight angle to the screen. If you can faintly see what was displayed on the external monitor, then the backlight inverter is probably bad.

If the external monitor didn't come up, you're probably looking at a motherboard.

The good thing is that all of those are covered for one year under Compaq's warranty, on a new machine.

If you are able to use the external monitor, back up your data, because HP/Compaq usually reformat the harddrive. Additionally, if you've added memory, pull the cards. They want it sent back the way it came from the factory.

No power and cant be open the program

Check the power adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage of the power plug that plugs into the power socket on the laptop should be slight higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If it is faulty, there are replacement power supplies available on the Internet or at your friendly computer shop.
If the adapter is OK then the power socket on the laptop is faulty or this socket has a dry solder joint connection on the motherboard.
You can test this by wriggling the power plug when it is connected to the laptop, if the charge LED flickers and if you hold this plug in a certain position the charge LED stays on without flickering, then the power socket is faulty.
This can be repaired, but requires the laptop to be completely
disassembled. I suggest you get a quote first.
